What Happens When Men Develop Breasts?

By Elisabeth Dale

It May be Time for a New Line of Male Lingerie

Less than one percent of all breast cancer cases are found in men. It’s a rare disease, striking one out of every 1000 versus one out of 8 women in their lifetime. It’s still relatively uncommon for males to be diagnosed with this “pink” or female disease. Yet what men seem to experience more often is the struggle women commonly have with their own breasts: finding the right fit in a bra.  No, it’s not some sexual fetish creating a kinky fashion demand. There are lingerie lines available to meet that need. Rather it is men developing female-like mounds on their chests and discovering that they need to contain and restrain this new breast flesh.

Male breast growth is a medical condition known as gynecomastia. Young males can develop a hormonal imbalance that causes them to grow breasts. Often the only treatment available to young patients is breast reduction surgery. One out of four men between the age of 50 and 70 are also diagnosed with this disorder. It turns out that many drugs used to treat enlarged prostates, heart disease, and even depression can result in gynecomastia. These men face the same body image issues as adolescent girls. But more mature men are less inclined to resort to surgery when it comes to their new man boobs. They instead turn to the array of women’s bras to camouflage and control these breasts under their clothes.

I’ve received many emails from men who have asked for my advice on the best bras for their body type. They tend to need garments with broader bands and smaller cups. Not always satisfied with male compression shirts, they turn to women’s sports bra manufacturers for comfort and relief. They have the same complaints as most women:  suffer from back pain, difficulty with sizing, and can’t find styles that flatter their figures. Many men now rely on some of my personal everyday bra brands like Moving Comfort, Wacoal, and others.

An aging population of baby boomers is bound to increase its dependence on the drugs that result in this breast growing side effect. Should bra designers take into consideration this new male foundation need? What do you think? Is it okay for a guy to be fitted in a women’s lingerie department or store?

I want to have female breast & be like a female more than anything I love wearing my prosthetic c cup breast & my pink bra love putting my make-up on in my apartment dressing 👗 up like a female love wearing feminine clothing I’m a 68 year old amputee white man with one leg

  2. Jessica says:

I wish one major fashion designers like Calvin Klein would introduce a feminine line of lingerie for men. I believe introducing transgender mtf models would definitely change the mind of many men and promote the desire to evolve.

  3. David Hall says:

Hi I am a transgender woman and I find it hard to get a proper bra fitting I would love to know what size of bra to wear

    • Ellen Lewis says:

You need to go to a bra fitting store to find out. They are ok with this. Where do you live? Perhaps I can suggest one.

      • Sophie says:

I can second this! I developed gynecomastia as a pre teen. I wore hand me down bras from my sister for a few years. I had my first fitting when I was 16.

I was fitted for years as an adult. I was a 38G when I came out as a woman of transgender experience. I never had any issue with bra shopping or fitting. Breasts are breasts and bras are for breasts.

  4. Gino says:

At 5’3″ and a fit 69 I developed a lump in my left breast and my GP (a female physician) 0rdered a mammogram and I was subsequently diagnosed with gynocomastia. Like others I am on prostate meds for BPH which is likely a contributing factor.

Surprisingly the sympathetic radiologist sat with me for a few minutes explaining what it was, and my options going forward.

In the following five months they have grown substantially. My GF has no problems with them and as a matter of fact likes them. That said, I have no plans on aggressive methods to surgically remove them or slow / stop their growth with male hormones.

After reading that male breast size increase is typically limited to a B cup, and this is where I currently am at, I suspect I’ll go a bit beyond that as the firmness of the “buds” is still a bit painful and increasing in size.

Luckily I discovered a women’s crop top bra that so far has concealed my issue but I’ll admit I often go “bra less” shopping and in general, men do not seem to notice, but women certainly do! I now know how they felt when they said in the past… “My eyes are up here” 🙂

Like others, I have accepted my 36B situation but the one troubling thing is if genetics have anything to do with the ultimate size of my boobs, I’m in for a journey as my mom was a C+ to a D.

Funny, I’ve been a lifelong “leg man” but now I’m fascinated be women’s breasts and I actually compare mine with theirs.

  5. Hugh jass says:

Questions for guys who openly wear bras:
1 ). How often are you confronted by other guys? What is the nature of the confrontation?
2 ). Have you been physically assaulted about it?
3 ). Do your coworkers etc give you grief?

In short, how much negative or violent backlash do you get?

    • Gino says:

I pretty much only wear a real bra (underwired as opposed to sports type) when shopping where I am unknown. Otherwise I wear a sports bra and my bra has not been detected, or if it was, it was ignored.

With that in mind, to answer your Q’s:

      1. Never
      2. No
      3. No

Women often raise their eyebrows a bit but no backlash… yet.

  6. Thomas de Jong says:

Two months ago When I saw my doctor I told him about a small lump on my right breast. He ordered right away for a test. Of course I had to wait when that call came in. In the mean time I saw my dermatologist and told him of my lump and after seeing my lump he said that is most likely cancerous and right away he took a sample for testing. I had to come back two weeks later for the test result and he was right it was cancer. I went right under the knife in his office. After he opened it up he told his assistant that the tumor had grown much larger so instead of just a very small incision it became a three inch cut. After that was done and saw my own doctor again and told him that I found a similar lump in my left breast. He sure didn’t waited long and I had a mammogram on my left breast and for good measure they also took my right breast as well. Thank God it came back negative so I was free of breasts cancer. My late wife was a RN and she told me many times that guys can get breast cancer although remote but it is possible.

I also have breasts the size of 52 c but me and my wife love them but would like them bigger. Can I get any help in that area? My wife don’t want me to wear a bra but I do when she is not around. Would like help in the best bra around for men less show for public I have gone to several shops to find some thing but only found Duluth trading has my size no questions asked I usually get t shirt bras. They fit really nice and capsulate my titties really great and make them feel good.

  8. Ron says:

I am a 73 year old male with 44 C cup breasts and my wife and I both love them. we both enjoy playing with them and I love her sucking on them. Sure fire way to get a great erection. Funny thing though she has no desire to play with or suck on another woman’s. So I have no plans to get rid of them.

  9. I am a sixty-one year old male who has been growing my own male breasts with the help of Estrogen Pills, because I want to have feminine breasts of my own! Now I have AA size breasts, but I will not be satisfied until I have at least a 32B size.

    • 99north says:

I too am trying to grow my breasts using breast pumps twice a day every day of the week for 30 to 45 minutes
i think they are 3/4 of A cup but I would LOVE B cups
is there anything you do to make them grow
a safe cream I can buy and try?

      • Thomas R. de Jong says:

I too love my breasts and want them to get bigger. I noticed that I always wanted to have breasts and instead of going under the knife I would embrace my breasts and I feel great having breasts. Also I like to have bigger nipples. and during this summer I have been travelling by bus mostly and just wore my girls tank top. I don’t like guys tank tops as they to close to my neck and wearing my Late wife’s and my son’s necklace I like to have them showing off in my low neckline girls tank top or wearing my dress that my wife bought me a year before she passed away. and She started to use Natureday Products to make he breasts bigger and to my big surprise she told me to use the products as well, so in her honor I continue to use breasts enlargement products.

    • Peter says:

Hi David. I also wish to grow my breasts. I have ordered a soya bean breast massage oil to help. I am a bit afraid of estrogen pills as I take heart medication so it might interfere with it. What do you think.

  10. john turbeville says:

so why not!! I love mine

  11. john says:

with the new lgbtsyxy coming on line. I have no Idea why men should hide their woman hood. I love my extensions and want my nips to show. I have never liked the mans concept of what a bra should do. Let women be women and men be men. Boobs are fun for both to play and be sexual with. So, why hide the darn things on either men or ladies!

    • Alexa Jackson says:

I’m wanting to go through full feminization therapy and get a bust of double D’s

    • Dividas says:

I feel the same way now. As I have now succeeded in growing my own Breasts. They’re not that large, about AAA, but I feel so much more Feminine, and happier due to my Breast growth! ( I used a Combination Of: “Estrogen Pills,” “Funkgreek Pills,” “Tofu,” and, “”Soy Milk,” over a 4 Year Period!). I can make myself, “Cum,” by playing with my, “Boobs!”

  12. john says:

Since I was in my teens I have liked looking and feeling breasts. I am now much older and love feeling the new me. I don’t want to wear a bra, I want my nipples to show. I kinda compare them to a work out guy with big pecks like arnie. My gal likes playing with them. I now take T shots to reactivate my ….. and it works. Boy, great tits, an active dick and someone who loves both. Hot Hot Hot!

    • mark cooper says:

Where can I get the stuff to make my breasts grow I want to have B or C cups I like to wear bras , I have 3 or 4 that bras that I can wear when I put one on 5 minutes later I forget I am wearing it.

  13. Tom says:

I am a 72 year old guy and have been wearing bras for a few years. I am a 44-C going on D. I believe my breast enlargement is due to prostate meds which I’ve taken for years. For some reason, I actually like having large breasts. My current bras are the Triple Stretch Comfort bras from Dream Products in California. They are very comfortable and don’t bind or pinch like some of the sports bras or compression shirts I initially wore. They are not feminine in appearance and are very reasonably priced. I have found that rigorous massaging seems to be enlarging and firming up my boobs, too. I’d like to get to a full D or DD size.

    • Les says:

Reading theses comments it seems that there seems to be a large
Proportion of men that seem to welcome and even enjoy their breasts. However there is also a significant amount of men who have developed enlarged breasts (gynecomastia) through no fault of their own and struggle with managing having breasts day to day. I was diagnosed with gynecomastia 3 years ago and my breasts have now grown to a 38b, which are now overtly sensitive, my nipples are swollen and clearly visible through clothing. I would point out I amongst all overweight (75kg) and 180cm tall (41 years old) I have explored a variety of clothing solutions including compression vests, vests with built in support and finally regular under wired bras. It has been very difficult to accept that this is the only solution to my discomfort and it is hard to find undesired bras in plain colours without lace that offer enough support. I am incredibly lucky my partner has been extremely supportive and has helped measure my breasts and buy my bras and has come to accept that I have to wear a bra. I have decided that I can not face by breasts getting even bigger in the future so have opted for surgery despite the cost and potential scarring I cannot wait to be rid of breasts

  14. Carmen says:

My breasts are 40b i wear bras, is thee certian style blouse that fits a man best?

  15. Jander Peterson says:

I’m now 58, and over the last 8 years I’ve experienced significant hormone changes/imbalances that have affected all glandular tissue [prostate, thyroid, adrenal, testicular, mammary, and alveoli]. Our homeopathically professional put me on a daily regimen of 100% natural fenugreek, saw palmetto, peuraria mirifica, and progesterone that had significant benefits within 15 months to my endocrine system. My endocrinologist was delighted to see these effects (although she could not openly endorse the homeopathic routine) and my annual exam PSA scores went from 3.5 to 2.3 to 1.7 to 1.2 to under 1.0 now the last 3 years. However, my T-scores have dropped into the bottom 5th percentile nationally for my age, I have major ED, while I now have very elevated levels of estradiol (estrogen) in my blood tests – normal is 6-8 picograms per milliliter, but in 2017 I was at 24 pg/ML, then 38 in 2018, and 54 pg/ML this past 2019 annual exam. I have experienced significant breast development since 2015, fuller tissue mass, larger nipples and aureolas – and not flabby man-boobs, as I am 6’2″ and 178lbs but now measure 39″ at my fullest chest over the nipples, and just 35″ under my breasts at top of the ribs, with a 30″ waist and my hips now at 36″. The HRT options offered by my endocrinologist (creams, pills, or injections) all have significant Rx risks so my wife and I agreed to not do these, and it was my Dr. that suggested maybe trying a bra to hold everything in place snug and flatten the nipples so they’re not so sensitive. We’ve had an “empty nest” since 2013 so I tried wearing a bra in 2015 and fit very comfortably in a 36C and my breasts fill those cups. My body shape looks very feminine, and I do like wearing a bra every day. My wife has been very understanding and encouraging in this. After that first plain white soft-cup T-shirt bra worked so well for my first week, she took me to buy 3 more so I would not have to wear the same one all the time, and we could different styles, cuts, cups (soft, lightly molded, more stiff molded, a little foam lining, full padding, push-up). It’s great around the house with just the two of us, but I’m very careful when we go out with friends or see family members. After 4 months wearing bras, and with my chronic ED, curvier hips 6″ wider than my skinny 30″ waist, and being super flat in front and down between my legs, my wife came out one day and said “If you like wearing a bra, I think you’ll really like trying some new underwear” and that resulted in us shopping together at Marshall’s – coming home with 16 new panties in all kinds of styles and colors from bikini to hipster, cheekster, high-waisted, boy-shorts, cotton, nylon, polyester, satin stretch lace. All my Hanes were tossed in the trash bin and I’ve been wearing panties and bras almost 4 years now. That opened up discussions about finding clothes that were cut-styled-tailored-designed for a woman’s body shape/curves to replace my plain men’s jeans and square cut polo shirts and T-shirts. So we did H+M, Gap, Old Navy shopping and got stretch-cotton long sleeve tops, clingy ribbed-knit tops, stretch denim skinny jeans that actually fit a 30″ waist but were cut to fit over 36″ hips, and some leggings, and skinny capris. I have to admit, these clothes looked great on my new body shape, and have always been very comfortable around the house.

  16. James says:

I significantly reduced my gynecomastia with simple diet and exercise. Worked for me.

    • Howard says:

Hello James, I’m 70 years old and I’ve lost over 50 lbs. in the last year and it seems my breasts are not smaller but rather more clearly defined.
I believe my cup size is B because I don’t need a bra. I have no problem wearing clothes but I wear a surfer’s swim shirt at the beach or in mixed company by out pool.
I’m not gay but I’ve learned to love my breasts.

  17. Triumph 650 says:

I’m in my late 60’s and have had breasts developing for several years now. I don’t know when they began to grow but I do have some photos of me wearing a teeshirt about 15 years ago and there are signs of some increase in the breast areas.
I wear 42D or 42DD depending on the style of bra and often wear a body shaper with foam cups which enhances the shape of my breasts. Like some of the earlier comments my wife is very positive about my breasts (the girls) and several of our female friends are very accepting of my desire to keep them and wear clothing that is cut to allow for them or even enhance the shape. I am now at a stage in my life where I feel I can finally be comfortable in my own skin without being over concerned about other peoples criticism, and it’s a path to be on but a great one when you are not walking it alone. I wish all the guys with breasts good health and positive thoughts.

    • Paul says:

I posted this question to another person on this blog, What do you do about going to the beach? I have started getting bigger in the boob area and now am concerned about my girls being exposed and getting in trouble for indecent exposure. (its so fun we can treat your enlarged prostate but you get girl boobs) I have heard about trans-gendered women getting in trouble for exposing their breasts.

      • Find a sports bra that you like and wear it. That is how I started going out in public. Yes, some people will have questions, and tell them like it is. After a while it will become second nature.

      • Jim says:

It’s terribly sexist, but men don’t get arrested for indecent exposure while women with smaller breasts might. Go topfree and advocate that women have the same right

  18. J says:

I’m 6 1/2 ft tall broad shoulders ,265 lbs , never had a man breast problem until I had a tumor removed , noncancerous ,thank god , several years after surgery my breasts took off growing at first not a problem , then as things got bigger started getting more sensitive and sore, after many great talks with my wife we decided to try a bra, yes guys it’s difficult, but we’ll worth it, troubles didn’t seem to occur till about a c cup , now filling up a 38d cup , my wife and I have found that bali, has bras with minimal frilly things ,work well victoria secret and Fredericks have a nice fit as well, just don’t look down your t shirt , lol, a little frilly but do a great job, I am as healthy as a horse otherwise, surgery to deal with this seems like it wouldn’t be the best option, this is the body I was given so I’ll just keep on keeping on, hope my input can help others with this tough situation.

  19. GREGORY FAGCHEK says:

    I LOVE WEARING BRAS!!!!

    • Rob Faggot says:

I love wearing bras as well. Always wore insert with my bra. I am now considering growing my breast from a cup to c cup. I have been thinking about it for 3 or 4 weeks. I love nipple play and have managed to get the bigger. I have been wearing bras since I was 12 yrs old (off on on).

  20. Kirk says:

I would like bigger breasts. I am a male of 70.

    • John says:

I wear a b cup bra but would like to go bigger I love my breasts

    • Rob Faggot says:

I have spent last 3 or 4 weeks trying to decide if I should grow bigger breast. I love the feel of female breast and want to feel that on my own body. Want to feel how is feels for a woman when someone(male or female) plays with them and plays with my nipples.

  21. Dianne says:

I’m so glad I came upon this blog site/forum and found it very interesting and informative.
I have been taking ‘anti androgen’ and ‘oestrogen’ for a number of years to gain feminine shape in my hips and boobs, I’m one 60yo and my boobs stopped gaining any cup size at “B” I’m beginning to wish I could get that “gynecomastia”so I can gain a cup or two sizes.
I quite happily wear my bra and feel very comfortable in it.

    • Shellie says:

I had used oestrogel for 18 months or so then switched to patches. My breasts have grown quite large now as a result. I am now a full 36C and still growing nicely. Worth a try.

    • victor pitts says:

I’m 73 and have about a “B” cup. I want my breast to look just like female breast and nipples and areola to look the same also. I use to cross dress and pass very well, but stopped about 20 years ago. I still and always will want to wear the panties and a bra but can wear a bra only at home. Too bad we can’t be outside who we are inside.

My Wife suggested that I might consider a Sports Bra to wear that might not show my breasts so much as a regular bra does. There are two problems I have with wearing S.bras are the tend to be pull overs and most come in size’s that fit several types of Women, like Small,Large and X-Large, I do not know what size I wear and sure don’t want a pull over bra! I do not want to spend a fortune for this bra if it doesn’t fit me correctly! Any help on this issue will be greatly appreciated.

    • Don Deitz says:

Pull-over sports bras are a pain. Guys’ shoulders tend to be wider and if you think getting them on is tough, getting them off is much harder. I ripped a seam one time. Now my sports bras are back hook or front clasp.

  25. Lonnie says:

I have worn a bra off and on for several years now, (pardon the pun)! I have had a lot of heart problems and I do take many different heart Meds. I also use to be on Testosterone replacement therapy for a few years as I have always had Gynecomastia since I was around thirteen years old, yes I got teased a lot also from some of the kids at school. I began to try different type bras for fit, a lot of failures, so many choices man what an awakening! I’m 66 years old and of a small frame, little bit of a belly but for the most part I’m small stature in build. after the Testosterone therapy I really started to increase in breast growth, I mean I got Boobs! After several years I have found that non padded Mastectomy bras fit the best for me, I get do get pain in them from time to time and a bra does really help with the support! I have a couple reasons for choosing Mastectomy bras and it is in the design of these bras. They tend to fit the larger chest size of most men better and with the high sides of the side strap under the arms, like me I have these little fat wings that are covered by the wider side band, they don’t pinch or chafe that area. These bras are made totally for support, some brands are better than others but I have several that I have found to be good. These type bras usually have a wide back band, three or four hooks that keeps from digging into your skin like other thinner bands do. Winter time is best for me as I can cover my self better while wearing a bra, summer time not to many times to wear a bra in a T shirt, as I really do stick out, only my Wife knows that I wear a bra and that’s the way I’d like to keep it! I live in a small city, there are no real Lingerie stores any longer only big box stores except for Elaine Bryant and they said they could fit me for a bra! Well this was a few years ago and so they said to come in around 5:00 PM to be fitted, I showed up and they must have called all their friends and so I just turned around and left, I wasn’t about to make their day! I mainly buy from e-bay , after that fiasco at Elaine Bryant’s no way was I going to pick a bra off the rack in another store! I do think I have done my own picking of a correct type bra that’s comfortable for all day comfort. There are a couple of other bras that I have, and will talk about those later!

  26. Alan says:

    Hello,
I am a thin, fit 70 year old male who began developing breasts 3 or 4 years ago. I believe that it is caused by taking a combination of Trazodone and medical marijuana for sleep. I like having them, except that one is larger than the other. I would guess that the cup size of the larger one is an A, and they are both still increasing slowly in size. It bothers me that they are uneven in size, so I have started using a cream containing phytoestrogens, which I apply daily to the smaller breast. I realize that this will probably cause the larger one to grow, too; but, I am hoping that the breast to which I am applying the cream will grow faster. Has anyone out there ever tried this?

    • Mel says:

Alan it is quite common for one breast to lager or smaller than its neighbour and this happens with women too.
So I think that there is no need for you to be overly concerned and my left breast is slightly smaller as well.

      • Raymond Zepp says:

My opinion is that phytoestrogen creams/oils work through the bloodstream, not locally. That means that direct application on one breast or the other will not balance them. I feel that phytoestrogens are best applied on the inner wrist or inner thigh, to get the estrogen into the bloodstream. On the other hand, products with volufine or voluplus act directly on the area applied.

  27. Cary says:

I’m 57 years old and have had breasts for about 6 years. If I wear a bra, I wear a 38C but they’re still really firm so I don’t feel a need for it most of the time. If I run though, I definitely hurt. I didn’t think about riding a bus. That would be torture. But lately just walking at a normal pace is causing them to bounce and giggle. It’s very noticeable to me and I hope it isn’t causing anyone else to feel uncomfortable. The other times when I see a need for a bra is when it gets cold. I don’t have to be walking to get noticed then. But I’ve considered getting silicone nipple covers. Has anyone here tried them? For now, a hoodie jacket seems to cover them well enough.

    • Robert says:

Why do men grow breasts? Do U like or enjoy having breasts? U can have surgery. Breast reduce surgery. As if a female is going to transition to male.

      • G-Man says:

Yes Robert male breast reduction surgery is an option, but expensive and intrusive. Why do men grow breasts, the reasons from choice to nature to medicinal side effects are as diverse as wine selections. Not all men choose to grow breasts, some have it thrust upon them, unwantingly.

  28. Hab says:

    Hi
It’s true that showing what we have is not at all shame.
I am also developing breasts now .I went to VS and tried couple of bras
But one of them gave support as expected even though my size is 36 C
I wanted to try vintage ones and heard that they give good support
    And lift
Problem I am not able to locate any stores which sell vintage cotton bra to try out and buy
    Pleas anybody help

    • Lonnie says:

Just for kicks I bought a cotton bullet bra on e-bay a few months ago, it was cheap and brand new Vintage! I got an A cup but it turned out to be between an A and a B cup, I fill the bra completely, it’s a very supportive bra with 3 hooks in the back with wide shoulder straps. I haven’t had the guts to go out in it yet but I do like wearing around the house, my wife says that’s just fine don’t go out with that bra on! One thing about cotton bras though is they like to shrink after washing and drying them in the dryer, that makes then a lot more snug and a little more better feeling. But just for kicks try one, but don’t go to town unless your ready for it!

  29. Eric says:

In my early teens my breasts began to develop. I found I really loved it. I tried on my older sister’s bras and they fit. Then in my late teens I grew tall and very thin and my breasts shrunk almost completely away. I was relieved, as I hated the teasing I would endure in gym class. But I was also very disappointed, because I really loved having breasts. Ten years ago I began taking phytoestrogens (to shrink my prostate and hopefully regrow my breasts) and my breasts have slowly come back. I almost fill my wife’s old 42B bras. I’m in my 70s now and have several heart conditions (two stents for blocked arteries and atrial fibrillation) and high blood pressure. There is no way I could ever transition to female, but I would love my breasts to grow to at least 42C. I don’t wear a bra because my breasts are very firm and perky, so I don’t really need one. I’m hoping that when I reach 42C my wife will insist that I start wearing a bra. So far she has tolerated my breasts, but is not all that supportive. I love the way my breasts bounce and jiggle when I walk and I love how they are beginning to show through my clothes. I’m looking forward to having to wear a bra as my breasts grow too large to hide. I’m not going to try too hard to hide them. Let them show!

Very interesting forum. Thank you to everyone for sharing. Dr started me on bp and heart meds 7-8 years ago. About 1-2 years later a Dr diagnosed me with bph. A few months after that the alarm went off 1 morning. As I reached across my chest I noticed boobage. I sat up & lifted my shirt. To my surprise I had large buds. I checked the net and found out that it is called gynecomastia. Forgot about it for a while.
A growth spurt hit me, again in the morning. I lifted my shirt and thought to myself. This is going Tobe interesting.
Next Dr appointment I lifted my shirt for the Dr to check my heart. Dr replied you have gynecomastia, would you like me to setup surgery to take care of that. I blurted out NO. Dr said okay. I got dressed and went to the receptionist where the Dr told me that I should ask my urologist for finasteride. I did that but uro Dr said that there was a bad side effect that he was worried about. I now have a different Dr and my next appointment is wit Dr Ben Docs. I am hoping that this Dr fill prescribe finasteride. 2 benefits, shrink my prostate and grow my breasts beyond D cup.
Grocery shopping with my wife a few days ago. I had neglected to wear a bra. I was wearing a snug tank top. My breasts were extremely obvious, nipples protruding quite apparently. A young lady politely asked “How do you hide your tits when you’re in male mode?”. I looked down tank top, Dad jeans and sandals. She said let me explain, my BF is a CD and I want him to have real tits. I told her to check the net as I am sure there are many things to help.
When I got home I checked and sure enough there are many phytoestrogens. I will be augmenting the size of my beautiful side effects.

I am the spouse of an an asexual woman whom I love very much. We decided early in our relationship that I would take testosterone blocking drugs (and a bit of estrogen) to reduce my sex drive. Things went well for the first couple of years and then I found that being feminized seemed to agree with me. The point it that that medications I have been taking have turned me into a 36B and I have accepted this, My wife is purely asexual but she does seem to fancy me dressed in feminine attire when we are alone together. It is is not the married life I had imagined but it works for us.

I will start here. 4.5 years ago I was told I have Parkinson’s. I started needs to manage the the condition. All was well until abut 2 years ago I felt a physical connection in my nipples and you peck muscles. My chest felt different. Fast forward 2 years and I now have perky 38C boobs. I refer to then as my Chi Chi’s to my wife. I am still growing. Oh the doctor won’t agree that you can develop blobs from the Parkinson’s meds. The web says 2-3 percent of men can. Anyway it’s simply. Grand to see so many men with this ” road less traveled” condition. Embrace the bra. Look for GenWear in 2017. What’s GenWear? Universally designed underwear for men and women

  35. Jason says:

I have a question for those guys that wears bras in public. When I first started wearing bras in public, I would wear a sweater or a jacket. Then in time I would wear a t-shirt. Recently I started wearing tank top in public do to hot weather, and It’s quite obvious that I’m wearing a bra, you can see the sides and a lot times my straps are showing. I’m starting to not care what people think. I love the support and comfort that I get from a bra. Dose any body else let there bra exposed?

  36. Gary says:

I am in the same boat. I developed some small breasts about 10 years ago but never paid any attention to them. One day I was sitting on the edge of the bed and finally noticed them…no big deal and I got on with my life. However, over the last few years they have become more pronounced and full. I have also been taking a prostate medication for the last few years. Last Spring I was a full 44B, but as of today, and my last measuring myself, I am a 46D. There is very little that I can suppress by squashing, compressing or otherwise disguising them. They cannot be hidden but at the same time I have only been stared at 4 or 5 times. Twice by males and the rest by female with one of the females looking real hard at my assets…it looked like envy since she was far smaller than I am. Point is, people really do not see them. We see them in all we do and magnify them beyond their real size. We create a monster that does not really exist. On another forum/blog, there is a gentleman who is a 48H and he gets along just fine. Thanks all and be well, zei gezunt!

You all sound like a bunch of old women cackling about your pains and discomfort. I get so tired of the “back pain and being comfortable” bit from guys just to wear a bra. I’ve had boobs since i was a preteen and they’ve been as big as a full C but now a days stay at an average to full B in size but seem to be getting bigger again as i age. There is no back pain in something like a C let alone a B that would be that discomforting that you HAD to wear a bra! I choose to wear one at times when driving on long trips for the only reason of them feeling like they are being jerked off my chest every time i hit a big bump in the roadand to keep from driving with one hand across my chest and the other on the steering wheel. Too many of you wanna be sissys way over estimate what you want to call breasts and get a kick out of whining i need to wear a bra…90% of you have no idea what it really feels like to have an honest B cup let alone C or D cup bouncing on your chest 24/7!
PS. I’m also a genetic male with boobs ='(

    • ABOYWITHGIRLS says:

Hanna, I actually do know what it’s like to have a set of G cups. My regular size now is a 36G. Yesterday, I was fitted and purchased 2 36G bras and a 34H. I know that I am sort of the exception and not the rule. However, I won’t and don’t go braless unless I’m in the shower. I just hate the bouncing and the movement not to mention the nipple chaffing and the under boob rash that I get if I don’t wear a bra. I do know what having a set of large breasts is like and having a doctor tell me “we need to wait until the growth stops”. It started when I was 10 and grew until I was 25 , I had a couple years of stability but I have had another 10 years of steady growth. I really don’t mind having breasts or wearing a bra. It’s not the worst thing in the world. Women deal with their own breasts on a regular basis. I just happen to deal with the same issues with my breasts.

    • Heather says:

Thank you Hanna! I feel the same way … i’ve had boobs since i was a pre teen and didn’t get diagnosed with hormone issues until many many years later.I felt like a freak then and hid them until curiosity and a girl put me in a bra! Yes I look good in one but it’s not an issue of pain of comfort bs .. lol But like you pointed out Hanna driving is the main time i like to wear one when i’m alone so not to have to hold my chest as it jerks hitting bumps!

    • Gary S. says:

You bring up a very good point here, Hanna…boob bounce. Some poo-poo it as nothing but when you have large breasts (46H) and you are driving (2001 Jaguar XK8) and you become a very active participant in a road annoyance (BUMP) and your breasts bounce along with the car, suddenly you realize…I must contain these things on my chest.
The point is, after a certain point any person with breasts must manage them through the use of a restraining device for control and comfort purposes. Bouncing boobs are NOT comfortable and very much do pull muscles. A bra can reduce the strain on the body to manageable levels. Be well all!

  38. James says:

My breast growth started when I began taking 5mg finasteride daily for an enlarged prostate. The growth was slow and they were looking like a typical case of mild gynecomastia. Then I started on estrogen and my breast growth went from slow to fast, and from typical looking small man boobs to 100% female looking breasts with large dark areola and nipples. There’s very little sagging and they project practically straight out from my chest. I’m not overweight, 5’10” and 163 lbs, so they’re very obvious and impossible to hide, even under loose fitting shirts. I bought a sports bra to wear when I went out in public, but it was too uncomfortable and hot so I quit wearing it. I thought everyone within eyesight of me was staring. But the more I went out without the bra, the more comfortable I got and the less self conscious. I finally realized not everyone was staring at me. The majority didn’t even notice. Yes, I get a few looks, and even double takes from people nearby, but it really doesn’t bother me now. The people who have seen my breasts or a photo of them, are shocked that they are so “female” looking. They expect to see the usual man boobs. Surgery is not an option due to the cost and the risk due to another medical issue. The growth has slowed, but hasn’t stopped yet. It seems that today more men have gynecomastia, and most are devastated. I sympathize with them, but I can say that it’s not the end of the world. Believe me, if you saw my breasts and realize I live a normal life with them, you’d probably feel a little better about your own breast growth (and thankful you don’t have mine). I’ve had a couple people I know ask me what size they are. I really couldn’t say for sure, as I don’t wear a bra. But I have a 37″ chest, and taking into account the projection of my breasts, I would guess they’re around a C cup. So for anyone reading this who is embarrassed by having boobs, just go out and be yourself, and try not to be so self conscious. The more you think everyone is staring at you, the less natural you are, which will draw more attention than your breast growth will.

  39. Elisabeth Dale says:

Hi David. Do you know what is causing your gynecomastia? Is it a side effect of the medications you are taking? Unfortunately, no one can predict future breast growth.

  40. david Anderson says:

Over a year ago my nipples started to hurt, so I went to my doctor. With test, he told me that I had gynecomastia. and my breast would grow and be in some pain. I accepted the fact that I had to live with this. My wife supports me and understanding about it. My breast as today will swell up, and enlarge as I would have to massage them for the slight discomfort. I’m now wearing a bra for support so they don’t jiggle and balance around. This feels better as the weight is lifted off my chest and my nipples feels better and don’t hurt so bad. I would like to know how big my breast will grow. I went from a 38a to a 38B in the last year. I’m 66 Years old, and I need to know how to take better care of them. I want to keep them. Thanks David

  41. Greg Wheeler says:

I just started wearing a bra. The only large A cup bras I can find are Leading lady 50 a cup bras. Obviously I am overweight and at 65 having a hard time losing it. The bras I have keep me from bouncing all over. I like them, they keep the girls from flopping all over. Where else can I find some 50 a cup bras. I don’t mind if they are femm or have lace on them. Thanks, Greg

    • Elisabeth Dale says:

Hi Greg. Have you tried the search engines on Leading Lady, Lane Bryant, or any other online lingerie retailers? You might also shop for a smaller band size (you will need to go up a cup size as you go down a band size, i.e. a 50A volume is equal to a 48B or 46C). You might find more choices in these smaller band sizes; and you can purchase a band extender to lengthen it to a more comfortable fit for your back. Hope that helps!

  42. Elisabeth Dale says:

Hi, Ron. If wearing a bra bothers you, you might try wearing a binder. That will compression the tissue and make them less breast-like in appearance. You can also try wearing shapewear (made for men) over a bra to make it less obvious. There may be other men on this thread who have more suggestions.

  43. Ron says:

I am now 55 years old and have to deal with gyno since my senior year in high school. I initially spent time in denial, but resorted to wearing compression shirts to hide what was growing on my chest. Through college, I had put on some weight which made my breast grow somewhat more, but also tended to hide their prominence. Two years ago, I followed my physicians directive to get serious about my diet and took off 60 pounds. He told me that losing the weight would resolve my large breast issue. I shed the weight, but the diet made my breasts grow more. My nipples got larger, i felt lumps directly under them and I experienced occassional milky discharge. A nutritionist that I subsequently consulted with told me that the diet regiment I followed increased my estrogen level. While I was glad that I took inches off of my stomach and waist, my bustline is all the more apparent. I have been able to buy smaller shirts, but my bust sure does show. With a size 36C chest now, I fund that I need to be wearing a bra most of the time to prevent the bouncing, nipple discomfort and back pain. Of course, wearing the bra makes my breasts stand out all the more and I notice that I get a lot of stares. I typically wear a large oversixed t-shirt at the pool with nothing else on underneath. I seldom get looks there. I just still feel very embarassed to go out in public wearing a bra. But, I have little or no choice. I try to realize that the bra is merely a medical support device, just like a knee brace or some other brace. But, the people staring at me make me feel as if I am some freak or cross dresser. Any suggestions for me to not be so ashamed / afraid?

    • Blaine says:

      “Cut the cups”

Ok Ron, try cutting the cups out of a bra you have to spare. Keep the straps attached. Result, support where you need it and less profile for people to notice.

Hi, I am a 65 year old male that has started to grow breasts due to medication that I am on. At the moment or when last checked by my Doctor several weeks ago she told me I was a 26A (Australian sizing) but on my way to a B cup.
Hardest part is the constant ache deep in the breast tissue and trying to hide the always prominent nipples. I suppose you could say that at the moment I understand what my daughter went through during puberty.
I am still at the hiding and denying them stage.

    • Elisabeth Dale says:

Hi, Grant. If you are bothered by prominent nipples, you can try wearing self-stick nipple shields (“petals” or “covers”) to keep them hidden. Hope that helps!

      • Grant Jones says:

Thanks for the idea Elizabeth every bit of advice helps, and the denial bit does not help at all just might have to let the cat out of the bag so to speak. i am slowly getting used to being a male with boobs

Hi I’m 46 and still very active sporting wise . I’m not obese . I have large breasts caused by taking life saving medications since the age of 3 . Playing sport is causing breast soreness . So much so my wife keeps cabbage leafs on hand in the fridge . I have looked into surgery and the risks are to great for my liking . So what do I do . My wife got me to try a bra and it stopped the bouncing around which stopped the soreness. But I’m a guy . Do I wear what is socially unacceptable for comfort . Do I put up and shut up . Do I take the risk of surgery which may cause problems later . I think people need to see a bra for what it really is. A garment that has a job. The fact that it is seen as a sex tool is probably the reason why I’m finding it hard to make choice . To make things worse I accompanied my wife to her breast check as she has pink in her family . The doctor not only found lumps in my wife’s breast but some in mine .Dear god I hope she is fine, We are now both going for a mammogram . These girls are scary things to have. So I may have the choice made for me yet . Guys something I did not know . 109 men where diagnosed last year here in oz with breast cancer . There would probably be a lot more if the risks for men were advertised. Yes its rare for men . Out of that 109 , 27 passed away. This tells me that breast care is a must in males as well . Do I have these lumps now because society told me it was wrong for men to wear Bra’s . Think about it

I have Gyno I am 60 and take blood thinners and blood pressure medicine. My breasts have grown to a 40C. My back hurts sometime but my nipples hurt from rubbing on my shirt all the time. I went from weighing 260 down to 203 and my breasts have grown more. They now have the shape of a woman’s breast. Will a bra help me with my sore nipples as they have grown too. I do not want surgery but I wonder how much they will grow. I have never worn a bra but I think I might have too . It is comforting to read the advice here. My doctor said as my estrogen levels are high I will have more female emotions. Any advice on that as testosterone is not a option. Does not mix with my meds. Thank you everybody on here.

    • Elisabeth Dale says:

Hi, Ed. Wearing something (like a bra) will help with chafing and irritation of the nipples. You might start out with a sports bra (compression/encapsulation style) and see how it feels. Most women find any breast pain eliminated when they wear a well-fitting bra.

  49. DDtop says:

Hi ive had Gyno from when was young 13ish back then they looked very female but as got older and did gym/sports and worked like a mule my shoulders broadened (2 foot+ across) with a deep chest had big lung cap from sports but they was still there but more wider i’d say but after getting ill from pushing it too far and ended up with Raynauds/Fibro so get pain problems and with meds for that like Nifedepine and Amytrylpline both are on the gyno list they found my T was very low i’m sure from the amy as screws your metabolism up as put on weight have a mate that’s taken and he has low T also.
I have low BP and slow heart rate and they was giving problems with things like palpitations so stopped them all before had H attack? but noticed my front was changing or felt it too was also getting leakage/dry bits on nipples so looked at options and went with a bra which made them a lot more comfortable in the mean time i had been to Endocrinology which found had hormone imbalance FSA was on the floor high prolactin 600+ and T lowish but changing along with other things not right plus a pit tumor to add to the mix! but there not sure yet on how to go about it as trying to find a working level then say can give me T injections etc but they give you another set of problems!
Found a working size for me in 46D/44DD in most brands of bra’s some have to vary up and down back and cup but on the whole found ok have quite a few now and helped some others left reviews on bra’s try to be very constructive giving details and little about me so people under stand and hopefully someone else or someone they know in this position will find help full?
Elisabeth’s web blog is great and pointed many inc shops to it.
Ive found some great sports bra’s like the Glamorise 1166(very discrete)Elomi EL8040 very good and comfortable as can wear all day the only thing with Elomi one is it pushes you up/out but such a joy to wear and as cold wear under tops so don’t notice so much and the cold does go right through me once got cold which triggers problems!
Also have the Elomi Asia EL3913(plain is 3911)love this as smooth very comfortable can wear under most things and for the weight of it you won’t believe the amount of support and security it gives just feels so snug and the straps are good which is one area we have more problems with way our shoulders are but woman have problems too with straps so not alone!
But also have some more i guess nicer types like the Betties/Madison/Caitlyn’s etc plus some Empreinte/Anita/Rosa Faia’s etc can wear for maybe going out etc or feel like a change?
Found the Eveden ranges fit ok for me.
But wearing a bra is no different to wear trousers/shoes/shirts etc just an item of dress?
And for medical needs no different to Glasses/brace/false teeth/eye/hearing aid/Calipers/wigs/hair pieces/etc etc or even Incontinence pads/Catheters/colostomy bag it’s a problem let’s deal with it and get round it simple and think the problem is with the other person viewing you or how you see yourself to them and most bra’s don’t really notice if you saw from other side with clothes over them!

But we both have breasts just that some have more some have less big or small all breasts and all need care/looking after.

The trouble with the meds side that it isn’t apparent for quite sometime that you will have a problem like Gyno till could be 6 months plus that it starts or longer even think of it like someone transitioning MtF have a read up on that and will give you some idea as when they start there meds it won’t be for quite a while before things happen then even after stopping it will keep on having an effect as it’s in your system bit like a super tanker takes while to move and even longer to stop!
As even after ive been off them for long while they are still changing shape/increasing.
But as had so long part of me and get on with life and like some have said just have a root through drawer and decide which bra to wear today or for what purpose so no different to sorting a shirt or trousers and i’m sure if you went to a business meeting with a pair of yellow protective trousers on they’d soon have something to say!
But think eventually or hope so? that many will see you wearing a bra no different to a woman as becoming so wide spread now maybe with the apparent problems also if not looked after and won’t get much notice unless wearing something bright under say a white shirt?

But one thing i can’t believe is that no brands/makers/designers haven’t jumped on this and pushed it as it’s a massive market for them as just think of the amount of males in the world almost double your sales! as just think i have around 50 bra’s now that’s 50 bra’s more than they would have sold if i wasn’t me and mine arn’t cheap store types there all main brands like your Elomi’s/Goddess/Fantasie/Glamorise/Playtex/Triumph/Anita/Prima Donna/Empreinte/Royce etc etc Admittedly i have got some in deals or used on flea bay but even at £10 each say rounded up figure thats still £500 and i’m sure many females never spend that much

I have been wearing bras since I hit puberty over 25 years ago. I have had fitters help me at Victoria Secret, and other smaller boutiques. I wear a 38F (38DDD) after recently. I can’t go out of the house without a bra on. I have no embarrassment what so ever in going bra shopping. I have the breasts to fill my bras. Recently at a boutique in NH, the fitter had me try on a sheer cup underwire. I think she was seeing if the “girls ” were real. When she came in to adjust the straps, I could see the surprise in her eyes when she saw that they were real. She was so helpful after that. She saw that I really needed a bra and made certain that I had a perfect fit.

I have grow to 36 dd breasts with breast pain and I have to wear a bra everyday. I’m a male 47 and this happen at 44. I got fitted at Victorias secret and I’m so happy to get the support of a bra and a sports bra for playing volleyball I have to wear a bra to sleep which I don’t like I just have to do it. Pushup bras give me the best support for me. Guys if you’re in pain get fitted for a bra you won’t regret it. I shop at Victorias secret and the store staff let me try on bras in their fitting room. Moving comfort, vs vsx sports bras and shock absorber bras are incredible support for men if this helps you to decide what to wear for sports bras. I wear a bra everyday and I’m not ashamed to wear one everyday. Sometimes you need to ask for help on breast growth that you can’t control. Take care of yourself!

    • Elisabeth Dale says:

Hi Gene. Thanks for sharing your experience. Good to know that VS doesn’t have a problem with fitting men. They do have a limited number of size options, though, so if you are larger than a DD you might need to shop somewhere else.

      • aboywithgirls says:

Elizabeth, I recently had that issue at VS. In Dallas I went looking for a new bra at VS. I have a couple of the Body by Victoria bras. I have one in a demi and a full coverage. Both are very comfortable. The only downside that I have found is they classify them as “lightly lined”. They are more “lightly padded”. I try not to add to my bustline as I already wear a 38DDD. It was unfortunate, the only bras that they carry in store in the DDD cup is their body by Victoria line.

  56. Centaur71 says:

I couldn’t agree more; Having a 40E cup bust myself, I comprehend this stigma all too well. A brassiere was designed to support breasts; who cares if it’s the boobs of a Man or a Woman? You all have MY understanding!

  57. Bob says:

I myself have large breasts for a male…pretty much since around 13, I am now 37. Got teased a lot in school, especially in physical education class. Anyways I always size up on shirts to help conceal. But I am getting tired of that. XXL shirts make me look bad. But if I go XL my breasts are quite noticeable. I have often considered getting a bra. I’d really like to get a professional fitting, but that idea is terrifying. Even if I did, I wouldn’t know where to do it. I have measured myself according to the directions I have read online. With a soft measuring tape, I measured myself to be a 44b. However selections in that size are minimal. I just wanna support what I have, not add bulk. And my right breast is slightly smaller than the left and I am not sure how that would impact the fit. Do places like Walmart, Target, Kohl’s, or JC Penney allow males to try bras on? I don’t wanna look like a creeper in the lingerie department.

Hi Bob. Walmart and Target don’t have any fitters so you’re on your own. Some men have reported good experiences by calling ahead to small lingerie boutiques for fittings, or places like Soma. But if they don’t carry your size, it might not be worthwhile. You should try an online lingerie website and order several to see what fits you best (just check return policies). Here’s a search I did at Bigger Bras for 44b and there seem to be quite a few options, plus ratings that give you an idea of how the bras fit. Let me know if this helps. http://www.biggerbras.com/catalog/bras-lingerie-swimwear.shtml?ss_1=&ss_2=&ss_3=&ss_4=797

      • Bob says:

Thanks for your response Elisabeth! Definitely a lot of options on Bigger Bras. Just wish they weren’t so expensive! With the high cost of bras I feel its important to be able to try them on. Most clothes I order online I end up having to send back. I am just a weird fit. I know Walmart and Target don’t have fitters but I was more concerned with if they would refuse me from trying bras on. The Walmart stores around here have older ladies man the fitting rooms and it would probably be uncomfortable for all parties involved. And I was reading about bra sister sizes? How effective do you think that approach would be?

        • Elisabeth Dale says:

Sister sizes refer to same cup volume on different sized bra bands. If you can wear a 44B on one of the inner hooks, than you could try a 42C or a 46A (although likely you’ll probably find less available in those larger band sizes). Another option would be to go for a smaller band but use bra band extenders (which you can find on my website in my store). You might also look at Bare Necessities as they have free returns (which makes trying them on at home easier — although you do have to hassle with repacking the bras). I’m not sure Walmart would allow a man in the women’s dressing rooms; but I do wonder whether you could take bras into the men’s dressing rooms? Have you been to the gynecomastia forum pages to talk to other men? Regarding the expense, once you find a bra styles or brand that fits you best, you can often find them on sale online. You can also search eBay or Bratabase for slightly used bras as well. Hope this helps!

        • James Knott says:

“Just wish they weren’t so expensive!”

There’s an old saying about getting what you pay for. A good bra, from a good shop may work out cheaper in the long run. I find stuff at Walmart tends to be cheap junk that you’ll soon be replacing. However I have never bought a bra from them.

    • James Knott says:

” I have often considered getting a bra. I’d really like to get a professional fitting, but that idea is terrifying.”

No need for it to be terrifying. I just had my first fitting a couple of weeks ago and no problems at all. I got the bra I wanted and it fits fine, far better than I could have done on my own. Just find a good shop with fitters. They’ve likely served men before. Here’s a link about men in the store where I went:
      http://secretsfromyoursister.com/blog/shopping-with-sfys-transwomen-cisgender-men-and-everyone-else/

I really had no idea about buying or wearing a bra before talking to them. Also, a bra specialty shop, such as the one I went to will likely have a much greater selection than other stores, so you’re better able to get the proper bra for your needs.

    • Iwantshapely says:

I read recently that stores will sell a small silicone insert to be put in the cup of the smaller breast to even them up. Hope you find this helpful

      • Michel says:

I have these to help fill my cups. They lift flabby boobs to give a bigger breast bump which turns me on. I enjoy wearing lingerie, pantyhose, stockings, and garter belts. I’m basically a crossdresser/transvestite. I want to enlarge my breasts but I’m not sure what works best. I’ve bought creams and have be taking supplements that I bought online. They seem to be a bit firmer and my nipples are more pronounced and sensitive to touch. But I’m not sure what will really work the best. I have spoken to my lady doctor and showed her what I was taking. I fed I’m really becoming a boob a phobic.

  58. Justa40c says:

I noticed that I stopped flying up and down stairs like I used to, started hugging my laptop to my chest to keep my chest from bouncing, it was subtle, but my chest made slow down without realizing it. I noticed that my rather thick laptop fit under my breast and my breast was thicker. I started looking at compression garments but they just didn’t help. By the time I got home from my 1.5 hour each way commute, my chest hurt so bad I was nearly in tears. I was driving holding up my left breast (it hurt the most), it was almost immediate relief. I finally gave in and bought a sports bra. It helped sooo much. It still took me a while before I could talk to my wife about, but as she didn’t like it, she understood. I finally got tired of being mashed all day long in a sports bra so I finally got brave enough to buy a “real” bra. I didn’t know anything about getting fitted, I just experimented with sizes till I got it right. I finally did get fitted at Soma and I was right on size as a 40C. I keep towards blacks (as I normally wear darker colors) or dark fashion colors (they are more often on clearance). I wear patterned shirts to keep the band and straps from being noticed, but being a 40C, it is plenty obvious I have more upstairs than the rest of the guys in the office. I have lost some weight, but my size hasn’t changed hardly at all, if anything, nearly got me into a 38D! I keep to minimizer bras mainly, or full coverage bras. I like Soma, Lilyette, Olga and Chantelle bras best, Playtex seems to have odd shaped cups, not my best fit.

I wish it was more socially acceptable, but likely won’t be for a few generations. And with the way hormones are in everything and overweight issues with the terrible fast food diet our society is burdened with, it will be a long time before it gets better.

Thanks so much Elizabeth, It is a tough subject for men to deal with and their wives to handle and understand.

  59. John says:

I too have boobs, I’m a man with 45, no meds, healthy, no overweight, but wear a 36C-D bra.
It started in puberty, and a few years ago they started to grow. I used some uncomfortable sports bras first, then tried on some “real” underwired bras, they fit much better, underwires are great when they fit right. I used some years to find out what a good fitting bra is, now I know better then my wife 🙂

She is not very supportive, as soon as I buy a new one with a little color on it or even slightly padded she gets angry, she believes I am a hidden Transsexual and want to slowly change to a woman. Well, I often tried to confince her of the opposite, I feel like a man, but have boobs to hold. So I only wear wireless bras now, mostly in brown or black. In fact, it is unimportant how they look, as long as they are comfortable. I would like to wear nicer ones though, but that would make too much stress with my wife.

Its about time that the world is accepting that men also have boobs, and some need to wear a bra.

Besides of that, some men just like to wear a bra, or even shiny underwear, soft, silky, fancy. There is so much nice underwear out there. I wonder why this is all just exclusively for women, as there are many many men who would love to wear such parts too. But that is another thing to discuss, the industry seems to have a contract to never ever make a mens underpant out of the soft cloth normally used in womens panties. Do not misunderstand me, I do not like to wear womens panties, as the normally do not fit me, but I would love to have my underwear made of the same supersoft fabrics, in the same great shiny colors, seamless state of the art manufactured. And not always dull black, white, darkbrown, cotton. Bah..

  60. D B Web says:

This is a good topic for discussion as many men like myself, have grown breast and are embarrassed or simply try to ignore what has to be done to live comfortably with their new body condition. Years ago, I was told that due to my bad leg veins, I had to wear support hose to avoid serious blood clots. Guess what, I have worn support panty hose for more than 30 years now and do not feel comfortable with out them. Over last 8 or so years, (64 now) my breast started to grow- had all the tests done and found that my hormones were changing, but most important, the meds I have to take for prostrate problems, probably have a big part in this accelerated growth. My kids always used to tease me about my moobs, but now they have developed into real boobs, as I comfortably fit a 46C–Yes I am speaking about a bra. Several years ago when doing my annual physical, I asked my doc what her thoughts were about this breast development, and she said, unless you want them surgically removed with no guarantee they will not come back, you must take care of them, no different than the other 50% of our society. And so I do, by wearing a properly supporting bra.
The point again, when you body presents you with a physical need for something, no mater if it seems not to fit the mold of what you feel is norm, you must take care of that need. In the end, it is not what others think, it is what is best for you to continue a healthy lifestyle.

  61. Tom says:

There are thousands of guys who “have” to wear bras. They have breasts just like women have. And, oh yes, they get breast cancer, too! So why wouldn’t men wear bras if they have breasts larger than an A cup? Until society understands that a bra is not just a female only garment, most men will continue to hide the fact that they are wearing one. I think it will be just a matter of time before the public mindset changes and we start seeing bras in the men’s department being marketed.

  62. Bill 70 says:

Well in four years since I began to notice my breasts have gone from a week A (over weight) to a good C (they fit snuggle into one of my wife’ bras – 2 years ago when I started to measure my breast there was lots of cloth in the cups…not now). Several of the medicines for diabetes increase breast development. One doctor two years ago did a Testosterone vs Estrogen. My reading were reversed for a male low Testosterone (below the min) and Estrogen higher than where male readings should be…in fact he said my Estrogen readings where equal of a 14 to 16 year old girl causing gynecomastia. He started Testosterone injections once a week. After a month he had to switch me to a cream because of cost. He gave me a subscription for a year. I faithfully applied the cream. My breasts continued to grow, I was a nice B Cup according to my wife. Did some research and found out that a guy with hormonal imbalance, the Testosterone converts to Estrogen thus increasing my breast development. So a year of the T cream added almost a small C cup. Accepting my breasts I decided to make them fuller and more famine. Tried several things like Fenugreek and Red Clover – some minor changes. Then I came across Pueraria Mirifica – What a difference I am now a full C cup – no lose cloth when I put my wife’s C Cup bra on – the cups are fully filled with my breasts. I like them period, they are mine. My wife says when they jiggle under my shirt (another cup) then she will help me with a fitting for the proper size bra. I have come to embrace my breast as part of me – liposuction is not my cup of tea maybe if I were 30.

  63. Hal 49 says:

Seeing a change in your personal appearance can be a difficult experience especially if it happens suddenly or over a short period of time.
I was taking medication that unknown to me had a side effect of possible breast growth in males. By the time I began to research, I had definite small mounds around each of my nipples and I could feel extra tissue under the skin in both areas.
I wondered if I was beginning gynecomastia but felt embarrassed talking about it with anybody except my wife. She was very understanding.
I began to come to terms with it and realize that having a more feminine breast than male chest was not a problem for me. But it was still hard to find good information from doctors. Most online Drs seem to be only interested in “curing” by surgical removal. But my nipples were no longer the only sign, because I was obviously growing breasts. I was quite happy to be experiencing this.

Now a couple years later, there is a definite feminine shape and I mostly need to wear a bra to enhance the shape that I have come to accept as mine and to give me a little comfort when nipples rub against shirts. It’s changed the way I look at clothing, too. If I’m to be at least partly feminine and to be known as a man with boobs, why should I not be able to feel more free about things that look nice?
That doesn’t stop at wearing a bra that is lacy, but now also underwear … how could I have gone so long wearing boxers and regular guy’s underwear and missed out on all those super-comfortable panties? I can buy three pairs for the price of one tightie whitey, too!

I feel more happy within myself, and my wife tells me our relationship has never been better.

I am still taking the medication and it’s most likely going to last the rest of my life. And it’s changed the way I live my life, too. “Never be afraid of change, especially if it involves changing your mind”.

    • Elisabeth Dale says:

Hi, Hal. I think it’s great that you enjoy your new shape and have not only come to accept it but embrace the change. Best, e.

  64. aboywithgirls says:

Jason, it sounds like you’ve accepted the fact that you have breasts. I have also. I’m a little further along with my breast development. I currently wear a 38E bra. I can’t go braless. I resolved a long time ago that in order to be comfortable, I will wear a bra to support the girls. Like yourself, I started with sports bras but soon realized that a traditional underwire bra is what I need to get through the day to be comfortable. If you want to be truly comfortable, go get professionally fitted at a reputable lingerie store. These ladies are usually very professional and curtious. You find that you’re not the first guy in need of support. It’s best to call ahead and ask, get the name of who you speak with and make an appointment. It’s usually best for both parties to schedule you in during slower business hours. This allows them to take the time needed to fit you without being rushed and reducing any awkwardness that may occur with female customers getting fitted in the next room. As for your friend, just wear it and tell him that you have to. Just explain the pain you experience and your doctor recommended it. Bras are for breasts, so if the bra fits, wear it!

  65. Jason b says:

Im a 38c and a regular bra for me is very comfortable depending on the brand, I don’t really fancy sports bras to much. I only wear one around the house, I don’t really go out much in public with one unless I have a jacket on, which is not to often do to hot climate. Im very insecure about people seeing my straps, I wish I can wear one at work. I line of work is yard service and my chest gets really sore from the ridding mower. Im thinking about telling my coworker that I want to wear a bra at work, just so he doesn’t trip when he sees the out lines. What do you guys think how I should mention it to him??

    • Elisabeth Dale (@TheBreastLife) says:

Hi Jason. You could try wearing a thin, sleeveless undershirt over your bra to help with hiding straps. I don’t think you need to tell a co-worker anything about your underwear habits. But that’s just my opinion.

    • DDtop says:

Hi have a look at the Glamorise 1166 sports bra very discrete and comfortable so don’t show under T shirts unless very sheer and keeps you cool as good fabric ive been wearing for a while now have 4 levels of support on the front cover so holds you in nicely.
One thing if your nipples get sore it can make your prolactin get high which in turn will cause them to become more sensitive along with causing testicle problems so an even better reason to say if asked. Just say have a hormone problem from meds etc could even direct him to website?

    • Tonja Lynn says:

I wear one everyday at work and I wear a thin t-shirt so my bras are very visible at all times at first I was very paranoid about people seeing my bra and straps but my doctor keeps telling me that whos business is it if I have to wear one or just want to wear one cause I like the fit and feel of the garment; and I’ve come to realize she is right and trust me I get my share of comments and I just ignore them, cause the only one I need to worry about is myself plus I also wear underwire bras and I long how they hug m y girls and while on the subject I also am happily wearing womens one piece swimsuits not ready for 2 piece suits but that is for a different post

  66. aboywithgirls says:

I would also like to add to the men out there with breasts, you need to take care of them just like any health conscious woman would. If you’re like me and you’ve decided your breasts, you have to do more than just find a good fitting bra. Make certain that when you have your annual physical you tell your concerns about breaststroke cancer and you want a FULL breaststroke examination. There are too many physicians who will treat your breasts like the elephant in the room that nobody will talk about. So remember, these breasts are your breasts and nobody cares more about them than you.

  67. John says:

    Hi Elisabeth,

I have written plenty of forum posts covering all sorts of topics. Maybe you could take a look at some of them and use my information for future articles? https://www.gynecomastia.org/smf/17/diagnosed-one-year-ago-a-recap-on-what-i-have-experienced/
I would like to become an advocate for Gynecomastia education and awareness. There are too much wrong information being spewed. I have read your newest article “Advice for guys who wear bras” and found it to be a step in the right direction. It even gave me the courage to go and get a bra fitting. Which I am a 36C according to the fitter I went to.
Too many advice columns advocate surgery and compression garments. They never want men to just live with it. I made the decision to only remove my breasts if I end up with cancer. They are a part of me and I don’t see anything wrong with them.
I used to wear a sports bra for 10+ Hours a day. I used to come home with rashes and irritated nipples. I finally decided a few weeks ago to don a regular T-Shirt bra and feel much more comfortable. However, now I am worried about how much bigger my breast look and the outline of the bra from the back.
Out of shame, I am wearing a sweater jacket to cover myself so people don’t know I am wearing a bra. I just want to be left alone and comfortable. I want to live in a world where a man wearing a bra to support his breast can be viewed as a normal part of life. People need to understand that there is nothing wrong with a man looking towards a bra for the function they provide.
It is amazing how people assume that guys wearing bras are doing so for “gay or transsexual” reasons. Just remember when you Assume, “You make an ASS out of yoU and ME”.
I love your perspective on this very touchy subject. The sad truth is more and more men will encounter this issue. I wouldn’t be surprised if Bra companies started making lines for men.
I would like to offer any information to you, just email me. I am not a writer by profession, however when you live with something every day, you get passionate about it.

    • Aly says:

      John,

I can relate to every word you have written. I’m a 40 year old man with breasts. I wear a 38E bra. I have also worn the sports bras and I’m now wearing traditional bras. My breasts are definitely what you would consider feminine in size and shape. For the most part, I can find bras that fit my shape without to much trouble at a lingerie boutique. Most department stores only go to DD. But I have no problem having and taking care of my breasts. I do not wish to be rid of them. They are gifts and unless my life is threatened by cancer, I will continue to dress them with a good bra that suits my days activities just as any woman does.

    • Elisabeth Dale (@TheBreastLife) says:

    • DDtop says:

Hi just read this post and in the same ball park or what they call it as you.
but don’t think it’s so much they need to make one’s for us so to speak as females have the same problems with fit just like us but i’d say more size in ranges and maybe better styles/types as ive found some that fit fantastic from sports bra’s that are very discrete to high end stylish bra’s like empreinte which fit perfectly.
but it’s also education that is needed like Robert above a dinosaur but it’s quite funny with those people that squalk about people and illnesses etc as once they have a problem you’d think war had broke out with amount of noise they make!

  68. John says:

It is a shame that the world lives under a rock. I was diagnosed with Gynecomastia about a year ago. There needs to be some support groups for men like us. There is a huge amount of emotions that go though one’s mind. Let’s face it, if you do anything that isn’t “Normal” you are a problem to society. I wear bras for their intended purpose. There has been the occasional day that I went out and forgot to put one on, it is so annoying when they move freely. Riding a bus with no bra sucks, every bump you feel it on your chest.

For the idiots who wrote on this story, people who are in my shoes didn’t ask for breasts, I am a healthy normal weight 6″2 man so it isn’t obesity. Mine stem from Risperdal I had to take for 11 years. Wasn’t my choice to take meds, being a kid I was forced to go with the flow. I now as an adult have to suffer for the greedy docs who just wanted to sell pills. Mine are more glandular, hence why I have Gynecomastia.

    • Ellisabeth Dale says:

Thanks, John, for sharing your experience. I agree that there needs to be more education about this issue; many parents don’t understand that gynecomastia is a side effect of certain prescription drugs. Have you looked online for forums about men who wear bras? I know that there are many men in your same situation.

      • James Knott says:

I am taking 3 medications, 2 for high blood pressure and 1 for acid reflux. All are associated with gynecomastia.

    • aboywithgirls says:

John, I found what you said very interesting because I can relate to so much of it (except the part of leaving the house without a bra) lol. Well I haven’t done that for a while. But I also get it. Seems that everyone out the wants men with breasts to compress, bind, cover, or cut them off. It seems that all of these other options will cause pain, damage, and further risks to our health. The only logical solution is to properly support your breasts with a bra. I’m not asking anybody to make a “man” bra. And quite frankly, I don’t believe they make a bra for a man with 38E’s. I’m very happy with the fit I get from bras already marketed to women. All I am asking is for people not to pass judgment and tell me I shouldn’t wear a bras for my breasts. I never intended to grow breasts however now that I have them I will make the best of it and I will care for them and do what’s best for my comfort and health.

  69. aboywithgirls says:

I had to make that same choice and I chose the bra. I developed breasts at puberty and was teased earning the nickname “tits”. I started by getting my sisters old bras just to try to keep my breasts from hurting. But fast forward to today. … I actually don’t mind going to get fitted at the store. Just when you think you are wearing the perfect bra it’s still nice to find one that fits and you like just as much if not more. I currently wear a 38 DD Vanity Fair or Soma with a couple of other brands. I haven’t tried a Wacoal yet. I am with Don and have no shame in wearing a bra.

  70. Dana says:

I have the same problem Im a 40c and this was due to a hormone imbalance. I was first fitted at fashioning and after they closed i began buying my bras from lane breast. I was first confronted by my supervisor at work about it. The ladys who work there are required to wear a bra and they brougt it to her attention i should have to wear one as well. She then spoke to me about it and i complied. I was surprised to be a C cup. I am glad this happened as it relieved a lot of soreness i was experiencing. I no longer work there but i continue to wear a bra to this day.

  73. Don Deitz says:

Della — It’s not that I really wanted to start wearing bras but a side effect of the medication I need caused some breast growth. The pain in my back and shoulders forced me to look for a solution. I tried other things but bras turned out to be the best solution for me.

  74. Don Deitz says:

    Thank you, Elisabeth.
A guy has to be in alot of discomfort to start wearing a bra. I came to realize that wearing a bra didn’t make me a different person than I was before.
So I have breasts now. OK.
So I wear a bra to support the girls. OK.
So I learned the differences between a full coverage, demi, molded, balconette, push up, racer back, and front hook bras. OK.
I know what size I wear and what styles and brands I like. OK.
It doesn’t matter if I’m wearing a plain sports bra or an elegant embroidered tulle bra. I am comfortable with my breast life. And it’s OK.
    I’m still me.

Maybe some other guys would also write here. It feels like I’m the only guy who ever says anything.

    Don

  75. Elisabeth Dale (@TheBreastLife) says:

Thanks, Don, for sharing your experience. I know there are many guys out there who, like you, have had to adjust to a new breast life but may not know their options. More and more men (one out of 4 according to doctors) are having to deal with a new breast life. Thanks for your insight and willingness to talk about the issue.

  76. Don Deitz says:

Women can’t appreciate what it is like for a guy to develop breasts. In my case it was a side effect of prostate medication I started taking when I turned 50. As my breasts developed I went through stages of ignoring it, then embarrassment, realizing that compression shirts were not working that well, to accepting that the best solution for me was a bra. My wife was very supportive through this whole process and bought me my first few bras. It felt very strange and weird wearing a bra but after a few weeks I was very willing to trade that for the relief from my chest and back pain. My first were plain full coverage bras and a few sports bras. After several years I started getting nicer bras, many from Bali and Wacoal. It is 9 years later and I still buy Bali and Wacoal. I have come to like demi cup and molded cup bras. I don’t see anything wrong with occasionally wearing a very nice bra from Aubade or Chantelle or other high-end brand. I don’t see that as being much different from wearing an expensive shirt and tie. I wear a 38B and buy in stores and online.

When they first began to grow some years ago I was very self conscious, but as they have grown, so have I. I am very attached to them now (haha) and like my breasts. My wife is very happy about the situation; that would remove any fears if I had any.
I don’t really care that people see my obvious breast shape, but I don’t believe that anybody who does is bold enough to say something about them or me in general.

But it’s always good to have a response ready, and you’re absolutely right in what you wrote, Tonja.
