How to make a woman feel good in her own skin; it’s the driving force behind this blog. We are interested, primarily, in the way a product can elevate self-esteem. But it’s not just the merchandise that matters, it’s the attitude that a lingerie or swimwear style can induce. Addressing the feminine state of mind with intelligence is always our goal. Women’s health issues and the impact they have on feminine confidence is a major objective. No single disease seems to have more effect on a woman’s demeanor than breast cancer and the emotional and physical devastation it inflicts.  That is why I have so much respect for the Amoena brand, whose entire mission is to provide product that beautifully and expertly addresses this issue. Highlighted here, bi-lateral pocketed swimwear,  fully constructed for whatever decision a woman makes after breast surgery. For stores carrying this brand click here.

As I've entered my 60's, I am astounded at the number of my friends, as well as younger women who are dealing with the emotional and physical realities of breast cancer. Whatever option a woman may choose for her treatment should be made first with the need to preserve her life. Those options, including prophylactic mastectomies, however, truly change the way she looks and, more importantly, feels about her body. The opportunity to look and feel good about one's self is very important, especially after treatment and/or surgery has battled the cancer. Reality can be a very unpleasant beast of its own. Having swimwear that lets a woman feel confident about her appearance is so important--at any age. The fight for your life changes how you see YOURSELF, but it also changes HOW you see yourself. The gift and availability of lovely lingerie and swimwear can help you feel that you look better, give you confidence and perhaps allow you to truly live every day of your life rather than feeling the need to hide or cover up who you are.

Ellen Lewis, Publisher of Lingerie Briefs: My merchant’s curiosity has taken me on a swimwear journey from the Miami Swim show to many shops whose robust businesses claim between 10 – 20% generated from swimwear. We began this swim column in order to highlight this potential. My research has led me to a very interesting conclusion: Swimwear is a fit business parallel to Intimates, but Swim stores and Bra Fitting stores approach the process in very different ways. Fit is priority, absolutely, in both venues, but the similarity really stops there.

Kimberly Berger is the founder/owner of Lion’s Lair Boutique Located in Islamorada in the Florida Keys. Established in 1996, Lion’s Lair Boutique has become paradise for the well-endowed and hard to fit woman. Specializing in larger cup sizes and plus sizes, Lion’s Lair offers the largest selection of cup sized swimwear, lingerie and clothing in the United States, quite possibly the world. Kimberly and her staff were the first to introduce the ‘swim bra’, an underwire garment that is designed to be worn under a tankini shell. The ‘swim bra’ offers the larger cup customer the same support as a bra but is made out of fabrics designed to get wet. Kimberly shared the concept with the designers at Eveden and shortly thereafter Elomi Swimwear was born. Designers from all over the world come to visit and consult with Kimberly and her staff who have truly become the voice of the consumer. It has become a destination store to woman seeking hard to find sizes, and an exceptional shopping experience.
