Swim Fashion 2017 Up Front and Personal

Today, our esteemed colleague, Kimberly Berger gives a first hand account of the Miami Swimshow which she attended for four full days last week in Florida. Despite her packed schedule, she found time to take these images and send me her thoughts. Kimberly’s take on the show is a personal perspective, obviously geared towards her retail history in the highly successful swim shop, Lions Lair, that she opened in the Keys 20 years ago. Her youthful frustration in not being able to find a bathing suit that fit a woman with real curves, is what led her down this road. Her store has become a merchandising beacon and today she runs a robust business in this mega force fashion category. What’s interesting is how she let the swim and beach business inform her knowledge on lingerie and as a result, has layered into her inventory, intimate apparel. I have long been a proponent of the importance of swim trends on lingerie design, from color, print and shape. It is the closest thing to a merchandising sisterhood and every lingerie shop, even if they don’t carry the category, should take heed of the direction emerging from this major fashion market.
