My frustration is killing me. Is this really still a serious conversation? It’s like pot and the legalization of it. I got into BIG trouble when I was Miss Texas in 1979 for telling a reporter we should legalize pot because I couldn’t figure out how it was different than booze. Androgyny and homosexuality have always been and always will part of any society, or culture whether it is genetic, learned or chosen. So why are we, the most progressive experiment in the history of the world still discussing gay marriage, John Travolta and hooch crimes? More importantly what does this have to do with intimate apparel and glamour?
Recently, I had a customer who has a site for cross dressers. She was a he but looked just beautiful at market in her leggings heels and tunic. She discussed making a compression garment that holds the genitals of the male back and out of the way so that he can be a she whenever he is moved by the spirit to do so. When I first started my business 9 years ago I got a call from a man inquiring if my then revolutionary bralette made on a Santoni machine was something that he could wear. I said “well of course why do you ask?” He told me he was straight but had a disorder called gynecomastia that made him grow breasts and was mortally embarrassed by them. Now they have gynecomastia surgery for men from $2500 to $5000 but what if you just don’t have that kind of expendable income? Can we not as a modern culture just accept differences yet again? I am not of course minimizing his pain for his difference but how sad that we are still so provincial that it matters. What the Hell? I just don’t get it.
