Lazy Lingerie ~ The New Norm

By Jené Luciani

Something I’ve been pontificating lately is the sudden usage of the word “lazy,” in reference to lingerie.  Recently, Bravo star-turned-mogul Bethenny Frankel released her line of shapewear via Dreamwear known as Skinnygirl Solutions.  At the press preview, she proclaimed that it was “lazy” lingerie. Why? Because, as a 41-year old working mom and entrepreneur, she still has to please her husband too.  This smoothing-and-shaping line of camis, briefs and bodysuits not only hides all your figure flaws, it also features sexy details like lace, just like your lingerie does.

So, instead of peeling off your clothes and slipping into sexy night-wear, all you need to do is wear one of these pieces under an outfit and voila, instant lingerie! It also prevents that embarrassing date-night “Spanx reveal,” when your beau realizes his fantasies of what’s been going on underneath that slinky dress all evening looks less like a Playboy centerfold, and more like a sausage stuffed in a nude Lycra casing.

I must admit “lazy lingerie” is a unique concept. As a busy mom and businesswoman myself, I’m all for products that pull double duty.  On the average evening, I look like Sarah Jessica Parker’s character in that movie I don’t Know How She Does It, passed out on the bed, fully clothed. While I don’t consider myself to be “lazy” in any aspect of life, when it comes to taking time to shop for, wear or even think about putting on some fancy lingerie, regrettably, I believe “lazy” would be a suitable adjective.  As a bra and style expert, I’m a huge proponent of proper fit and wearing what looks and feels good, but on most days, I’m lucky I can get out the door, so worrying about donning the finest silky underpinnings seems to fall by the wayside.

Not long after Bethenny’s event, I received a pitch for an admittedly adorable looking new underwear line aptly titled Lazy Glamour.  The thought process behind this line? They are made in easy-to-care for fabrics, so no hand washing needed or extra care as in your average skivvies.

The “lazy” part here is the convenience of having something that’s fun and flirty, yet easy to care for too.  I thought to myself, there’s that word again: lazy.  Are we really that harried in our daily lives that we can’t even stop for a few minutes to put on some sexy lingerie? Last time I checked, La Perla and Agent Provocateur were still in biz, so someone must be buying it.  But I am intrigued by the fact that someone else out there is thinking about how busy the modern woman is – and while we still want to look pretty and feel sexy underneath our clothes, sometimes life just gets in the way, and a new solution is born.
