What’s Your Secret Garden?

By Margaret Shrum

I’m so curious about what women today are fantasizing about when they are alone or especially when they are with their partners. My sexual fantasies range from romantic, to wild, to perverted, to sensual and even mystical. Back in 1973, Nancy Friday wrote a book called My Secret Garden: Women’s Sexual Fantasies.  Her book was the first published compilation of women’s sexual fantasies and basically revealed that women, just like men, have a variety of scenarios that excite them.

Some of the top female sex fantasies include: Dominating men or being dominated by men, the teacher /student scenario, sex with a stranger, having a threesome with another woman or two men, voyeurism, force fantasies, exhibitionism and being a dancer or stripping for a lover. These are just some of the most popular fantasies, but all that really counts is what turns you on. Besides porn, there is a huge selection of erotica available online thanks to the “50 Shades of Gray” phenomena which really made it more mainstream and acceptable. Two of my early favorites were The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty novels by Anne Rice and Little Birds by Anais Nin.

But even more interesting is where our own imaginations can take us, how pleasurable would it be to create your own secret garden of fantasies?  I invite you to begin exploring your fantasies, your turn-on and any being more aware of any thoughts that arouse and excite you. Create a fantasy journal which could include some of your hottest real life sexual experiences as well as new pleasures you’d like to someday explore…or not. Bonus points if you actually turn them into reality!
