Something For Everyone ~ Belabumbum

By Lindsey Borchard

If you’re pregnant, nursing or even thinking of becoming pregnant, you probably know about the brand Belabumbum. This was the only brand I knew of before I started doing all my research about nursing and maternity bras. I knew I wanted to try these products on and see for myself how wonderful they are. Belabumbum, created by Alyssa Weiss and Heidi Rauch, has been around since 2001. Their brand that features nursing bras sleep bras, loungewear, swim and even baby sets is seen around the world. I knew I had to get my hands on some pieces.

To be honest, I didn’t really think of Belabumbum has a “large cup” brand for maternity wear. I thought I would probably never find anything that fit me within the brand. And even though I still think they are better suited for the A-D girl right now, the larger girls shouldn’t loose hope yet.

I first tried on the Serena Spacer Soft Cup Nursing Bra. This one has to be my favorite from everything I tried. The lightweight contour cups are made with spacer foam technology that is breathable and comfortable. This is a wireless bra that had some pretty lace details but not much so it was simple in design. The straps are adjustable which I LOVE and the nursing closures were easy to open and close with one hand. I tried on the 38F-G. They size this bra within two-cup sizes, promising it will accommodate you through the growing stages of your breasts. While I am a 38FF right now I fit pretty snug in it before I am nursing. I don’t know if I will fit in it in the beginning stages of breast-feeding when my breasts are larger. So with this one I will have to say stay tuned for updates. You will find with this bra that you won’t want to take it off. I was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable it was and how much my husband even liked it on me. Score two big points for Belabumbum in my book!

The second bra I tried was the Bamboo Sleep Bra. This bra is so pretty and so soft but such a failure on my body. Now I want to clarify in saying in no way do I not like this bra, it’s just not working for my body right now. I think for the A-D girl, this bra could be your best friend. But for the larger cup gal, you’ll need to look for something else. Let’s start with the good news… The fabric is amazing, it’s soft, and super breathable. Even though it’s a racer back its easy to slip on and off.  And the subtle lace trim gives you just enough detail to make you feel feminine and beautiful. Now the bad news… I think if they want this bra to work for the “larger” cup gals they need to not make the “V” so deep. I felt like if I slept in it I would wake up with one trying to make an escape. Maybe if the band was a little snugger I would have felt more supportive. They size the bra small, medium, large, saying the large fits 36 F/G – 38 D/E. Now I think this is where the problem lies. If I am a true 36G I will be fitting in bras completely different then a 38E. I think the size scope is too broad for this type of bra. Like I said if you are A-D and don’t have too much problems finding bras that fit you, this bra will be a winner.

Overall I think this brand has something for everyone. Not every bra will fit a large cup girl but it’s good to know they have something within their categories that we could wear, whether it is a chemise, swimsuit, bra or sleepwear. Have you tried Belabumbum? Tell me your favorite pieces below!
