Shower Her With Lingerie

By Aimee Guthinger

There really is no better time in a woman’s life to throw caution to the wind and allow herself to be “showered” with decadent lingerie than during the spring of her engagement.  It is a great time for the real fun of being a bride to begin.  It is a special time for both you and your soon to be betrothed, and no matter what your taste or preference in lingerie might be, mark my words, your gift giving friends can be of great value especially if they know your preferences beforehand.  Ideally, if you set the tone with your pre-selected registry, then your girlfriends will have a great starting point for your shower.

Of course, it is no secret that lingerie has traditionally been incorporated into bridal showers, but I also love the idea of a lingerie specific shower either in conjunction with your traditional shower (maybe reserved for dessert) or even as a separate event altogether. This notion also gracefully allows your more conservative guests to politely excuse themselves to avoid potential embarrassment.

Now, call me old fashioned, but I would recommend including your intimate registry with your full bridal registry.  Your selections will set the tone for all of your guests with your intimate style, but I would start with the basics.  A good registry provides a way to label your selections, (i.e., wedding night, get away outfit, underthings, etc.) and this allows those closest to you to better understand their options without trying to guess which item is meant for which night.

Much like you would with your china and kitchen items, I suggest selecting a variety of styles among different price ranges.  Don’t let cost sway you! A registry is merely a collection of items you like.  It provides a roadmap for gift givers to either use directly or to take note of your taste.  And, this is the real beauty of the registry, as it gives your friends and family insight and choice, but doesn’t commit them to anything in particular. They are able to exercise their own discretion and spend within their means.

Finally, a registry shouldn’t be intimidating as can be the case for brides with little prior experience.  You don’t have to pick out elaborate styles for your registry if you are not comfortable.  Selection can range from a pretty pair of panties to the outrageous “what would blow my new hubby’s mind” lingerie. Remember, options at various price points regardless of how provocative or not frees your guests to choose what they like and what they can afford.  Also, don’t forget, many boutiques offer monogramming options, so beach towels with your names and wedding date are great items to include. Lotions, candles, even costumes for the honeymoon or back at home are also worth considering.  A favorite among our Cape Cod shoppers is the French Maid.  She’s timeless & can be a great deal of fun for newlyweds! So, whatever you choose, get out there and have some fun. You’re the bride and it’s your party!
