Impressive ~ Fantasie’s Jana Bras

I was finally able to see the acclaimed exhibit, “Impressionism, Fashion and Modernity” at the Metropolitan Museum of Art this week-end.  I made it just under the wire: the show closed on Memorial Day.  It was worth the effort though, because this was a display of paintings from some of history’s most renowned artists highlighted from a very interesting and innovative perspective. Showcased in tandem with these masterpieces were renditions of the actual dresses worn by the women portrayed on the canvases.  Although Impressionism is not my favorite period, I recognize its critical place in the History of Art.  Artists such as Monet, Manet , Degas, Cassette, Morisot, Tissot, Bartholomé departing from their predecessors, dissolved the clarity of an everyday object using light and color to create the illusion of image and mood.  In turn a basic item, here a dress, a hat or a shoe, took on a whole new attitude.  The juxtaposition of the actual and the perceived heralded the evolution of Modern Art.

I have wanted to write about Fantasie’s new Jana collection for a while because I know how well it has sold to stores and how good this brand is at developing  everyday basics with enduring fit.  However, it was not until I saw the show at the Met Saturday that I understood exactly what Fantasie had accomplished with this new Jana design.  This moulded bra is coated with a soft geometric layer that gives the impression of a lace veil  alluding to something much more seductive than a classic t-shirt bra. Without sacrificing its reputation for all day comfort, the new lower plunge silhouette continues to support sizes 30 – 40, D – GG cups.  Already this style, now delivering to stores, has been deemed a success.  It will continue its emergence as it is already on orders for fall 2013.  But more important, this design is part of a larger market movement  in the traditional t-shirt bra category, as plain and simple is updated to artful and chic.
