Body Art ~ Erica M

emMy first encounter with Erica M was in Paris last year when she launched her brand of subtly erotic, luxury hosiery. Of course, based on my own legwear legacy, I was instantly intrigued but needed to wait out the fan fare for the viability the business. Coming about in 2014 with her 3rd collection of opulent leg art, Erica has added bodywear styles that challenge the bodysuit market with her technically innovative and creative designs.  Made in Italy on the finest looms, these pieces are subtle vignettes meant to peek out of or through a woman’s clothing provoking a visual wonder.  Knitted with trompe l’oeil details, each piece is a proclamation of a new generations resolve to honor “unprejudiced self-expression”  When I was building this department at Macy’s too many years ago to admit, the hosiery business was anchored on nude pantyhose, argyle socks and leotards.  Breaking barriers, a task with which I was charged, was a heady test and we were very proud when we split from one department into four as the fashion elements of this classification exploded in the market place.  But I do not think I could have ever imagined how very far the industry would travel.  Erica M has sailed right through those barriers bringing a distinctly independent and sexy statement to a critical intimate category.
