Lingerie Briefs ~ by Ellen Lewis

Bigger Than You Think ~ Lula Lu

Shopping at Costco yesterday, I started to think about how seemingly remote items become mainstream staples.   Actually, Costco is an interesting study.  So many shoppers go there for specific things week in and week out, but truthfully, it’s the new and unexpected product that surfaces in those robust aisles that really seduces consumers to this wholesale warehouse environment.  One of the things this retailer does so well is ferreting out niche products and marketing them to the public within the framework of everyday essentials.  A few years ago, I did not even know what Quinoa was. Now this tiny grain is so much a part of our diet, it makes sense to buy the quantity stocked at a mega store.  Exploiting emerging trends is a powerful statement about a store’s merchandising acumen.

Believe it or not, this analogy brings to mind the petite lingerie brand, Lula Lu.  Specializing in bras that fit A, AA and AAA cups, this company has made it their business to address a woman who is small breasted and still desires the beauty, elegance and sass of well-made intimates.  When I first met founder Ellen Shing several years ago, she schooled me in the sheer numbers of customers frustrated by the lack of sensual and pretty product available to women who had long outgrown their teen torsos and were not necessarily looking for push up camouflage. Recognizing their desire for flattering foundations that defined their mature feminine body frames instead of changing them, Ellen has created a unique collection that not only enhances a woman’s self-image but also adds sustenance to the bottom line.  Who knows, Lula Lu could be your store’s next “big” thing. Inquiries: nnetwork@aol.com – NY Showroom Nightwear Network
