A Rose by Any Other Name ~ Dita Von Teese

By ELLEN LEWIS

Every Mother’s Day, while she was alive, I gave my mother a single yellow rose cut from my rose garden. It was her favorite flower. She was a ‘less is more’ type of woman, simple in her tastes, a ferocious perfectionist. You might not see the correlation between Dita Von Teese’s Julia Rose lingerie, pictured here, and my mother’s understated persona, but I do. Besides the obvious rose connection, I see drama and desire in both realities. Drama can be bold or simmering. Julia’s Rose is a sexy statement. My mother’s preference for minimalism conjures understated mystery. Both are provocative.

The attention to design details is indisputable in the Julia Rose collection. The bra, panties and garter belt in deep, saturated colors are engineered in an intricate rose embroidery and rich silky satin.  A single rose, each petal and thorn visible through a sleek crystal bud vase sitting on by mother’s desk reveals a purist’s vision. Femininity reveals itself whether a full-bodied bouquet or an individual floral statement. Both are a perfect gift for the right woman.
