Launched last year, Verdant Intimates is a premium lingerie brand designed for those who want unfussy, easily-wearable lingerie that still makes them feel beautiful and confident.
The founders are Michelle Bergmann and Eleanor Mooney, two Filipina lingerie industry veterans who first met while working together in Soho, where they dreamed of opening up a lingerie boutique together. However, Bergmann says that the designs she saw around her were “either too simple and minimal or too provocative”. There was no in-between.
Both firm believers that everyday lingerie should be both functional and sophisticated, when they finally went into business together a decade or so later, it wasn’t to launch a boutique but rather to create a whole new brand that would address this gap in the market. They describe the Verdant ethos as “elevated lingerie essentials” – everyday pieces made using fine-quality fabrics from Europe, and manufactured ethically in NYC.
As well as the aesthetics, they pay special attention to the fit and comfort. Mooney says they design for “our peers and friends – everyday women who are looking for something comfortable, supportive, and beautiful to wear running around with their kids, managing meetings all day, or traveling to their favorite destination.” To ensure their creations would hold up in these types of settings, they tasked their fit models with wearing the garments while going about their regular lives for a full day before providing feedback, rather than just briefly testing them in a studio as usually happens.
The brand’s debut collection is Ilona, a range of practical, timeless silhouettes in soft dot mesh – some with a touch of lace at the edges – which feel wonderfully light and airy. All of your everyday basics are covered: padded and unpadded, wired and unwired, and a choice between bikini, thong or boyshort bottoms.
For FW23, they also launched a 3-piece capsule collection called Bloom, featuring two wireless bra styles and a bikini brief made with a beautiful Leavers lace and tulle. With a crop-top style bralette included, and a lace pattern that’s half floral and half geometric, this range feels modern yet timeless too thanks to the all-back color palette.
Knowing that it’s important for customers to be able to see and feel these garments to truly understand their quality, they founders are working on plans to open several pop-up locations later this year. Longer term, they also intend to expand their size range, as well as bring their ‘elevated essentials’ touch to loungewear and swimwear.
Until then, Verdant Intimates is available exclusively on their website in sizes XS to XL and, depending on the bra style, 30-38 band sizes and AA-F cups. Prices run from $195 to $240 for bras and $110 for bottoms.
