Launched at the beginning of this year, Vimissia is a luxurious, proudly made-in-Canada brand that revolves around silk. The brand was founded by friends Victoria Zhadan, Evgeniya Burmaka, and Elena Smirnova, whom Evgeniya says had long shared a love for “beauty, craftsmanship, and the quiet confidence that silk represents.”
Forced by the war to all leave their home country of Ukraine, Evgeniya and Victoria both settled in Canada where, drawing from Victoria’s expertise as the owner of a high-end garment manufacturing business (which she also transplanted from Ukraine to Canada), they decided to finally turn their many late-night conversations dreaming up a brand into a reality.
Victoria heads up the creative process while Evgeniya leads brand growth in North America and Elena, who stayed in Europe, works on developing the brand in that region. The trio are all closely involved in designing however, collaborating from first concept to final detail to ensure every piece reflects their shared vision for luxurious silk loungewear that “turns everyday moments into private rituals of elegance.”
It’s a strong debut collection which, to me, feels fully-formed – not focused on one particular look or motif but instead about celebrating silk sleep and loungewear in all its beautiful variations. This is a brand for anyone who loves the soft, indulgent touch of silk on their skin, whether they’re after a very classic design or something more statement-making and contemporary.
There’s the Classic Silk range which offers minimalist, solid-color pieces in simple silhouettes: short chemises, long slip dresses, and an unadorned sleeveless pajama set. These are versatile wardrobe staples, elevated through the use of pure silk satin. Then there’s the Bubble Silk range, which is much the same but with the twist of a subtle fabric texture, for those after something a little more exclusive.
The French Lace range offers that other truly timeless silk nightwear option: fluid satin elegantly adorned with fine lace appliqué work. Think gowns with sweeping, lace-trimmed kimono sleeves, or sophisticated slip dresses where delicate lace frames the neckline or trails across the silk, revealing flashes of skin along the way.
For lovers of gorgeous florals, there’s the Printed Silk range which features various exclusive prints, from a strikingly bold all-over floral to scattered poppies, and a long slip dress that looks like it has been just dipped at the hem in floral pattern.
The other two silk ranges each only contain one product, but they’re two of the most interesting: a Velvet robe in deluxe sheer silk fabric with velvet flocking, and the Rose Petal Silk robe which is made from a blend of silk and rose fibers, decorated with the poppy print plus finely-detailed contrast print trim.
Vimissa’s silk nightwear is all crafted at the brand’s own Canada atelier, with an emphasis on premium construction quality worthy of these beautiful fabrics. Sizes cover XS to XL while prices starts at $357 CAD and go up to $2,079 CAD (approximately $250 to $1,475 USD), though at the time of writing they’re having a sitewide sale!
