Lingerie Briefs ~ by Ellen Lewis

Live From Paris ~ Retail

Andres-Sarda
In Paris for the Salon International de la Lingerie show, slightly jet lagged and somewhat inured to the romantic fog that used to engross me whenever I found myself in this beautiful city, I still find certain aspects of the French culture  so poetic, it is difficult to ignore the creativity born here.  But more about that later. Today, I made a point of shopping at the usual suspects: Le Printemps, Galleries Lafayette and Bon Marche as well as several independent shops.  With little time to spare, these stores offer a grandiose overview of many of the premiere French brands even though the entire city is currently in sale heaven.  Still, skirting the department’s perimeter, are newly delivered styles of intimates, swimwear and leg dressing.  Never mind sleep and lounge because with few exceptions (Laurence Tavernier), this category from this country is not anything to write home about. From the moment I stopped at the Implicite boutique in St Germaine, the initial message at retail was crystal clear: Orange and Purple reign supreme for Spring 2014.  I have a tendency to zero in, so do not misunderstand, there were other stories seeping through.  However, the minimal new stock, somewhat camouflaged by markdowns, bore the color story first and foremost.
