I am constantly amazed at what Halloween has become in the United States. Two days ago I was in Ricky’s, the edgy New York cosmetic and accessory chain and the entire store was converted to a costume hub. Forget about buying shampoo. Last week at Costco, racks of kiddy costumes had usurped the apparel aisles. In the malls Pop Up stores are bedecked with orange and black paraphernalia. This day has become a retailer’s dream. I remember when Halloween was mostly a child’s party: homemade costumes, venturing door to door to collect hand bundled candy to trade later with my sister and brother. Now it is a commercial extravaganza. Still, there is a creative side to the festivities. Nothing quite tops the world renowned New York Village Halloween Parade. When it comes to spectacular dress up, this event knocks it out of the park.
Personally, I applaud any celebration whose mission is fun. And Intimates have always played a role. Certainly elements of lingerie have long been integrated into this masked celebration. However, for lingerie boutiques, sustaining a modicum of class while capitalizing on the retail potential has always been a marketing challenge. Yet, the minute I saw Mimi Holliday’s Chocolate Chip collection and particularly this invisible nude mesh and silk bodysuit, I knew I had found the perfect solution. Simultaneously hot and elegant, one can still easily imagine the rich lace bra peeking through a multitude of feminine disguises. Only she knows the luxury that lies beneath
