Last week my husband and I booked a snorkeling excursion to the Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park, on the Baja Peninsula in Mexico. Donning a bathing suit, wetsuit, life vest, flippers and a face mask, I brooked the currents to peruse this 5000-year-old reef. If you have the Netflix marine screen saver, you know what I saw. It was mesmerizing.

Thankfully, I was wearing a basic black Anita bathing suit which means functional comfort first and foremost. Luckily, I own several from different Lingerie brands, constructed for serious support. Thank goodness for their generosity!

Beachwear is a yearlong staple here in Cabo. Coverups substitute for casual dressing.  Swimwear stores abound like nail salons in the USA. Yet none of these stores carry bathing suits equivalent to the styles sold in lingerie boutiques across North America and Europe. Like the USA in the early 2000’s, the concept of bra sized swimsuits has not hit these watery shores.

The swimwear sold in lingerie stores is unique. There is quite a difference between the construction of bathing suits developed by experts in bra development. It’s not about trends, though certainly fashion is infused in the designs. These suits are about functional fit. Available in a range of sizes, A – N cups (USA), these styles are also a commitment to a woman’s self-esteem.
