Intimate Magic ~ Chantelle

The first time I saw David Blaine perform his Street Magic, I must admit I was somewhat wary. I am not a fan of tricks, sleight of hand or wizardry. But it did not take too much scrutiny for me to realize that what I was observing was a form of extraordinary art. In Blaine’s space, reality shifts, perception intercedes, and astonishment results. What you see is what you get. It does not matter that what you see is really something else. You are still amazed. The feeling of wonder is visceral as you remain transfixed on the performance. You are completely entertained by the magician’s illusions.

I started thinking about David Blaine’s artistry the other day while visiting the Chantelle showroom in NYC to re-look at fall and preview spring 2013 products. The Chantelle brand, already a master at balancing intimate performance and feminine mystique, has captured the essence of illusionism in their newly launched Paris Paris collection. They have managed to create a trompe l’oeil effect on fabric with an innovative woven satin jacquard that appears to be delicately appliqued lace, but is, in fact, a mere impression. Combining this visionary optical technique with an exquisite leavers lace, they have created a group of intimate designs as functional as they are seductive. The T-shirt bra, in sizes 32-40 and B – F cups, is pictured here with the matching hi-waisted brief, in sizes XS –XL. Chantelle presents a very practical bra with a very provocative persona.
