The Assets Of The A-Line Bridal Dress
By Margaret Schrum
Many brides love the look of fairy-tale wedding gowns, but the reality is that brides desire the perfect gown that will fit and flatter her shape on her special day. An A-line silhouette is a popular shape for bridal gowns, it looks best on almost all types of figures. This includes curvy women with hourglass, apple shaped, pear shaped or even petite and full figures. The only shape that doesn’t really benefit from the A-line silhouette are slim and athletic women who look better in Empire or Ball Gown styles that create more curves on their straight rectangular frames.
An A-line wedding dress usually has a fitted bodice which can be strapless, v-shape, sweetheart, halter or with/without sleeves. Slim at the waist and gently flows out along the lower body crating an A shape. The fitted waist can elongate a petite shape, draw attention upward on a pear figure, slim down an apple shaped body and show off the curves of an hourglass figure. For pear & apple shapes, find a style that draws the eye upward using details like an asymmetrical bow, pretty beading, embroidery or pleats on the bodice. When selecting a gown, take your time to research before setting up the appointment for a fitting. If you can find your top 3 styles and know that an A-line silhouette is the best for your figure, this will make your time in the dressing room more pleasurable. Having realistic expectations regarding styles that compliment your figure will ensure that you won’t find yourself in unflattering dresses, which can frustrate and discourage the most excited bride.
