Unique Bridal Shower Ideas
By Aimee Guthinger
The seasons are shifting, days warming and somewhere (not in the northeast) flowers are beginning to peek out from the darkness underground. It means only one thing to those who love romance. The bridal shower season is upon us. It is that special time when girls get together to celebrate someone’s coming betrothal. In honor of shower season, I have decided to write a series of blogs featuring different themes. The variety of options is endless. Some may be familiar. Others may seem novel. A few of us at Bedroom I’s Boutique would like to think some of the choices are uniquely our own. Nevertheless, whatever one chooses, all are creative, fun and a great way to reconnect with the women in your life before that fateful matrimonial step. The first theme in this series is a new idea for me. One of my staff members, Ariana introduced me to it.
We hear time and again from brides preparing for their honeymoon that they feel mounting pressure to “perform” for their future spouse (if you catch my meaning) throughout the honeymoon. I imagine men might feel the same way. Nah, on second thought that is a fantasy! I myself wonder if this pressure is being created by the complacency that may be a byproduct of living together prior to getting married. The psych major in me cannot help but wonder if it dampens the mystery of the forbidden fruit that always has been an element of a traditional courtship. Well, another blog for another day…
So, if we consider that this desire to entertain, or perform as it may be exists, maybe a unique shower theme could include little help from friends. Each bridesmaid is asked to bring a gift bag with something specific for the honeymoon; gifts that offer a theme for the couple to play on. The bride does not get to see the gift until the honeymoon when her new husband, eyes wide shut, reaches in and selects something from the gift bags each evening. The gift bags may offer the bridesmaid’s name or they may prefer to remain anonymous. Either way, the theme for the night is a surprise to both the bride and groom. Personally, I love this idea for two reasons! It takes a great deal of pressure off the bride, herself, and it encourages a playfulness that may easily continue as the couple makes their way home and into married life. Obviously, a trusting relationship with their bridesmaids is key when selecting this theme. It has the potential to be great fun, but your bridesmaids must be comfortable with their role and not misconstrue its intent. Encourage them to have fun. Ask them to imagine what they would enjoy finding. And finally, it goes without saying, lingerie is a must have for each bag too!
