Two Sides To The Story ~ Hanro
It’s late Monday evening and I just returned from Costco here in Cabo San Lucas. Constantly enamored by the multi-faceted psyche of this stellar retailer, I mine their assortment wherever I happen to stumble upon one of their stores. I was, however, somewhat stumped last week when I found a table of bathing suits sitting right next to a display of fur trimmed winter parkas. Adding to the confusion was the stack of faux fur slippers parked directly across from women’s shorts. I did start to “get it” when speaking to a Mexican friend the next morning, I noticed she was zipped up tight in a long sleeve velour jacket, a scarf wrapped around her neck. The winter is approaching in Cabo. Temperatures will dip to 60⁰ at night with constant crisp ocean breezes. Costco is catering to its consumer, the tourist escaping the North American polar freeze and their own population not accustomed to the cooler air. With their usual merchandising acumen, Costco has recognized that there are usually two sides to every story.
You might question how I find this retail venue similar to the Hanro brand, but frankly, it is a perfect fit. Hanro has proven their metal throughout a long and storied product history, continually evolving their assortment and expanding their mix to address different innerwear needs. But it is Hanro’s West Broadway collection and in particular the lounge jacket and pant that impressed me. So easily accommodating to a New York lifestyle, it would be perfect for the casual winter nights here in the Baha California Sur. Constructed in a combination of the finest micromodal, cotton, wool and elastane yarns, these luxury styles are available XS – L. No, I don’t think you will ever find them at Costco, BUT, precision focus on the dichotomy of customer desire sets both companies a notch above.
