Boudoir Art ~ Nomi Ellenson Photography
I have a love hate relationship with boudoir photography. Part of me rejects the concept of women putting themselves on display, the need to define sexuality as a provocative pose in a minimum or no clothing. But the other side of the equation is art. Photography is the most seductive art form I know. A talented photographer captures the essence of the subject by freezing a point in time. What might seem fleeting becomes eternal, there for posterity. Over the course of the last year, boudoir photography has evolved. Part of the industry has recognized that women of all ages and persuasions are embracing beautiful lingerie for themselves. Immortalizing this attitude has changed my perspective on this niche. When the right artist comes along it is worth recognition
This is why I am highlighting the work of Nomi Ellenson. Nomi reached out to me recently with her portfolio. I was struck by her personal take on the images, particularly the proud feminine sensibility. It was not a surprise when I learned that she had been raised in her family’s Lingerie business (Towne Shop in NYC). Merging her passion for photography and her lingerie DNA was an obvious goal. After extensive studies in the field and time served as a social media photographer for NYFW/IMG, Getty entertainment and Hearst, she opened her own fashion and boudoir studio in 2015. Nomi’s touch, the fearless, the sensual and the somewhat tongue and cheek, has helped to expand the horizon of boudoir art beyond the obvious. Male or female, it’s a gift.
