From Mom to Grandmom ~ Belly Bandit®

By ELLEN LEWIS

I have seen the Belly Bandit® products loitering around maternity departments ever since this clever brand launched in 2008. But, honestly, I did not pay much attention because pregnancy was far in my wake. It was serendipity that I stopped by their booth at Curve and found an old colleague and neighbor of mine representing the company.  Out of respect for her expertise in the maternity business, I took some time to hear why a maternity brand might hold sway outside that venue. Here’s the skinny (tongue and cheek) on that point. Belly Bandit® is much more than a shaping product for pregnant and post-partum women. Although it serves a real health function for women during and after pregnancy, it is clearly a great tool for delivering control and support that our stomachs demand as we age. I, now of the latter group, remember well the lower back pain pregnancy created. I also have not so fond memories of being asked when I was going to give birth 9 months after delivering my 3rd child. In fact, Belly Bandit® was born as a result of a similar event experienced by founder Lori Caden.

The original Belly Wrap, as well as its 4 offspring options offers a range of compression fitting XS-XL. The brand though, goes way beyond this key item, growing annually with additional products (leggings, camis, panties) geared to nurturing a woman during and beyond her childbearing years. My new favorite is the Anti-Panti®, a leak resistant undergarment with a proprietary patented crotch. My Belly Bandit® comrade refers to it as a “tinkle insurance policy”. Let’s face it, this is definitely a pregnancy issue and I can assure you that it has many fans in a more ‘seasoned’ female community. The thing about the Belly Bandit® brand is not only their devotion to well-being but its ability to restore a woman’s self-esteem.
