Velvet Crush ~ CAMI NYC
By ALISON CONNOLLY
Sometimes it’s not such a bad thing for retailers to start selling holiday items (ahem, Christmas) as early as September. Granted, seeing those huge inflatable Santa Claus lawn ornaments at Costco is obnoxious, even in December. But there are brands that market themselves just right, and who show up at stores at the perfect time in a way that ignites excitement about the changing seasons and serves as a reminder of why we hold the holiday season so dear. For me, that is precisely what happened seeing the new Fall ‘18 velvet collection from CAMI NYC.
The latest collection has taken the best-selling classic silk shapes the brand is known for and reinvented them in decadent velvet. The skillful combination of velvet and lace increases the glam-factor for a brand already known for its sophistication and elegance. In addition to the use of velvet, the current season brings the addition of jewel tone colors such as merlot, ink and gold for an added touch of richness.
The founder and CEO of CAMI NYC, Samantha Steen, aptly describes her label as “Classic. Feminine. Versatile.” What’s particularly relevant is the word versatile, as these pieces were designed to mix and match with your existing wardrobe. This is not the type of lingerie-as-outerwear trend that’s reserved for fashion elite, it’s something almost every woman can easily pull together to create a look that’s effortlessly cool.
As someone who regularly layers camisoles in her daily style, I believe CAMI NYC offers a beautiful foundation for anyone who wishes to invest in wardrobe staples. I can imagine any of these tops being worn on their own, or layered with jackets, sweaters or cardigans (in addition to pants/shorts and a skirt, of course). Keep in mind, the brand is not limited to just camisoles; there are silk slips and skirts, jackets and pants.
With the arrival of the latest velvet collection, these light layering pieces transition perfectly into the holiday season. I guess it could be said that I’m crushing hard on these velvet pieces…and if you are too, here’s where you can discover much more from CAMI NYC:
