Pretty Polly Eco-Wear ~ Lingerie Sustainability Moves Forward

Pretty Polly’s new Eco-Wear line caught my attention because simple, comfort lingerie is clearly on the consumer radar. This is a collection of seamless, soft bras, tights and bodysuits  made with Amni Soul Eco, the only biodegradable polyamide yarn in the world. Available in S/M-XL and sold in eco-friendly packaging, it is a laudable effort to achieving sustainability.

Eco-Wear combines technological innovation with a thoughtful look at how the lingerie industry impacts the environment from start to finish. At the center of the project is the world’s first biodegradable polyamide which is designed to fully biodegrade in 3-5 years (as opposed to decades) after being properly disposed of in an anaerobic landfill. The unique composition of the Eco-Wear fabric allows bacteria to access and digest waste to accelerate the biodegradable process.

Made in Italy, Eco-Wear production occurs in a certified OekoTex® Made in Green factory, a credible label guaranteeing transparency throughout the manufacturing process. Transparency is a critical part of the Sustainability journey.

In this vein, it is important to note (as Pretty Polly does) that these garments are not fully without environmental impact. Elastane is used and is not biodegradable, even if the main fabric is. For manufacturers like Pretty Polly, the search for environmentally compatible components is ongoing. However, these basic styles, are a first layer towards a responsible wardrobe.
