The Evolution Show: Quality Defined
By ELLEN LEWIS

The Evolution Show, just by its location and easy going vibe, is always an intimate affair. Many of the trends replicate my research in Paris at the Salon International de la Lingerie. Green and Pink presided. I saw Asian influences, watery florals and the infusion of bird motifs in prints. Floral laces juxtaposed with graphic details as well as multi-thread embroideries. There is always a modicum of leather and bondage. I discovered a new brand (new to me) Magnetic Me, whose use of snap closures embedded in the fabric addresses a huge market that is often set aside by other brands. But the issue I found most important stems from my conversations with several brands was the frustration they sometimes feel with the American market who do not always appreciate the value inherent in products in which detail defines the product. The intent is to educate the consumer. How do we communicate that value is not necessarily about price. Quality is an investment. Less can be more. Many of these pieces become keepsakes..

Quality is a Love, a Passion and an Education!
Love your column Ellen. It’s an odd feeling to be back in this land of “supersize everything” after being in Martinique where the large bag of snacks is the same as the smallest bags found at a typical rest stop. Making consumers here understand that more is actually less and also unnecessary and often wasteful is truly an enormous challenge. No answers but very interesting observations. Also great to see you in NYC.
