Calling all fans of high leg cuts and bold colors in their beach looks – there’s a new swim brand in town! Just (re)launched today with a collection titled Revival, Thicks and Bones is an independent British label created by Tosin Bodija, a full-time model who’s been photographed for the likes of GAP, ASOS and Figleaves, and who knows a thing or two about fashion.

Like other swimwear entrepreneurs I’ve spoken to before, after she became a mother Bodija struggled to find swimwear that made her feel comfortable, flattered and stylish all at once. Her solution? To start sewing her own swimsuits and bikinis. Her creativity flourished and eventually sparked the idea to launch her own brand, dedicated to taking a garment type that often makes women feel self-conscious and instead making them feel empowered.

The name Thicks and Bones is derived from the phrase “sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me”, representing the confident, body-positive mindset she wants to inspire in her customers. It’s also a nod to the brand’s commitment to inclusivity, with a debut size range that covers XS to 2XL and a design ethos that’s about flaunting and flattering all shapes and sizes – thick, thin, and everywhere in between.

The Thicks and Bones aesthetic can best be described as modern, uncomplicated shapes that are cut very high on the leg – or even entirely sideless, as is the case with the strapless Kemi one-piece – to elongate your silhouette and highlight your hip curves, and done in a palette of vibrant colors that remind me of oceans and sunsets.

The real star of the collection simply has to be the underwired Ìfẹ́dé – pronounced ee-feh-dey – swimsuit in the striking Sherbert print (it’s also available in a zingy green) which was first designed by Bodija as a painting and then transformed into a print by a digital artist. It will definitely make you stand out in a good way on the beach this summer!

Conscious of the importance of sustainability in today’s world, Thicks and Bones swimwear is all made from either a flat, custom-printed fabric that’s 82% recycled polyester, or a ribbed fabric that’s 75% recycled nylon. Manufacturing also happens locally, within the UK.

Thicks and Bones bikinis are sold as sets and priced at £85, approximately $110, while one-pieces cost between £90 and £130, approximately $115-165.

    Hi
I’ve left you some messages on your voice mail. I want to get the one piece swimsuit IFEDE; my bust is a 42 should I get the XL or the L?

You need to contact the name at the bottom of the story. We are not a store. We are a magazine. If you have difficulty then let me know and I will contact the story writer.
