La Divina by Rosa Ribelle: Seductive, Italian-Inspired Allure
By ESTELLE PULESTON

Founded by Samantha Rose and launched just over a year ago in Brooklyn, New York, Rosa Ribelle is a brand for those who enjoy indulging in fancy things ‘just because’, and who make selecting their lingerie part of a daily ritual of embracing their personal style. It’s about pieces designed to be comfortable and wearable, but also undeniably glamorous.

Samantha has always worked in fashion, but felt like she had finally ‘found her place’ when she moved into the lingerie industry. Running a flagship boutique for a French brand, she witnessed how transformative and empowering lingerie could be.

And immersed in every aspect of the business from direct customer interaction through to wholesale, she started to dream about creating her own line which combined her newfound love of lingerie with her appreciation for vintage fashion, particularly Old Hollywood glamour.

Rosa Ribelle is not however simply a retro-repro brand. Rather, the designer likes to take a very classic silhouette and give it an unexpected twist that brings it into the twenty-first century. The spark for her debut collection, for example, came from the idea of taking a vintage bustier she’d thrifted and creating an updated version which would appeal to the modern customer.

For her second collection, La Divina, which launched last month, Samantha found her muse in Monica Bellucci’s character in La Riffa (The Raffle) – a captivating, confident young woman whose wardrobe epitomizes timeless Italian elegance.
“I started daydreaming of the Italian countryside, slow living, romanticizing your every day and embracing your feminine power,” says Samantha, “Monica embodies a level of effortless sultriness that is further exuded through her personal style… The name La Divina came from the idea of embracing your own divinity, your own inner goddess.”
An avid Pinterest user and mood boarder, Samantha is often inspired by a single garment or photo, developing out the concept until she has the first piece in mind. From there, everything else in the collection falls in place around it. The goal is to create a range of styles that would all make sense in the same person’s closet, and within their lifestyle.

For La Divina, that means a glamorous underwired slip dress and alluringly lace-paneled slip skirt (the designer’s personal favorite) both in glossy silk charmeuse, a sheer lace and mesh bodysuit, and a boned bandeau bra set that combines a vintage-esque pointed underbust silhouette with a modern Brazilian-cut leg line. Golden hardware, velvet straps and wire channels, and delicate scalloped edges add an elevated touch, and everything is available in a choice of either classic black or seductive merlot red.

These are all looks which could feasibly be styled as outerwear too: the bodysuit under a blazer, the straight-necked bra over a crisp white blouse, the slip skirt over a solid-colored brief or perhaps some tights, and the slip dress all on its own as a striking statement piece for cocktail hour.

Rosa Ribelle lingerie is ethically-crafted in small batches at a small, female-run atelier in León, Mexico, using materials sourced as sustainably as possible. The size range includes XS to XL, and prices for La Divina run from $55 to $198.
