Savara Lingerie: Body Positive Intimates With Sustainable Ethics

With a name that means “glowing from within” in Sanskrit, Savara Intimates is a wirefree lingerie and swimwear brand from the Netherlands that aims to uplift and empower women through its uncompromising comfort, problem-solving fit and body-positive ethos, all while being an ethical and environmentally-conscious company.
The brand was founded by Eva van Schijndel and unveiled its debut collection in early 2020, which stood out for its adjustable elastic backs – a growing trend in the intimate’s industry, and a signature Savara design feature that appears on every one of its bras.
The lingerie range is made exclusively from a mixture of soft and sustainable Tencel and recycled or factory-surplus lace produced in Italy, Latvia or Germany. All hardware and elastics are also sourced within Europe and come with an OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification. Production happens either in-house or in one of two small European factories.
In addition to choosing materials with a low environmental impact, Savara’s sustainability initiatives include a free repairs service, donations to One Tree Planted for every order, and allowing customers to opt out of their bra coming with removable cup padding (compatible with most Savara bra styles) since the brand has yet to find a fully recycled or non-synthetic option for that.
Also striving to be a body-positive brand, in 2021 Savara launched its Perfectly Normal campaign which showcased its products on six ‘real’, non-model women, while also sharing their unique stories and journeys towards embracing their natural bodies. Last year, the company introduced nursing bras to its collection, and at the start of this month, it launched a pocketed mastectomy option too.
There’s a swimwear collection as well. Made from recycled ECONYL® fabric, every piece is reversible – a great way to reduce consumption since one swimsuit or bikini is all you need to enjoy multiple looks for your next poolside vacation! All of the bikini tops have tie backs to offer a similar level of fit flexibility to the original bra range.
The Savara Intimates size range spans S to 2XL, with most bras available in regular or fuller cup fits (overall covering US sizes 32-36 A-F and 38-40 A-E.) Bras are priced from $45 to $84, bottoms from $23 to $45, and swimwear from $34 to $67.
