Honey And Salt

“Is the key to love in passion, knowledge, affection?

All three-along with moonlight, roses, groceries,

givings and forgivings, gettings and forgettings”….

Carl Sandburg’s poetic expression of the essence of real love is epitomized in his 1963 verse, HONEY AND SALT. This poem, written late in his life is a tender ode describing a true friendship between a man and a woman.  It is my favorite poem because, for me, it defines my marriage.  The balance of accord and contradiction is respected as the foundation of a relationship.  We hear so many explanations of the differences between female intuition and male perception.  We cannot deny that the feminine and masculine dichotomy is a jigsaw puzzle that propels our lives.  I witness this often in the Lingerie business.  What women buy to feel beautiful and believe to be alluring is not always the same as what men see as sexy.  For an Intimate Apparel item to capture both of these impressions is to assure the creation of a “hot item”.  Every Lingerie designer hopes to create a masterpiece that will anchor their collection and drive their business forward.

That is why, at the Curve NY Show last month, when Valerie Lucas, the founder of Coup De Foudre Lingerie in Washington D.C. told me about the Fortuna chemise (FT4450) from Clo Intimo, I was intrigued.  Valerie introduced me to the brand by explaining that this racerback style had already survived 6 reorders in her specialty boutique with no signs of slowing down. Designed in a combination of nylon stretch lace and tulle, a plunge front bodice with a racer back frames the torso while the soft sheer split front skirt provides a lyrical illusion of elegant control.  Available in 5 colors, this style is the anchor piece in the Clo collection. I knew the minute I saw it that this item was a woman’s perfect answer to fit, function and flair, but when my husband’s reaction was, “wow that’s sexy”; I knew that Clo had a winner.

“There are sanctuaries holding honey and salt….” Carl Sandburg

I just had to comment because that cream-colored negligee on the models looks JUST like the lingerie I wore on my wedding night! I think she may wear it better than me, sad to say. 🙂
