I have been ensconced in the Lingerie world for more than 25 years and as a curator of this intimate art form, I have often wrestled with the position of pleasure objects in the gallery of a tasteful boutique. In the Intimate Apparel world, there has always been a delicate dance between elegance and the erotic. It is a woman’s right to experience her femininity no matter what journey her life might take, but how does a store tell this story with intelligence and class? I found the perfect equation when Gina Mastrangelo, owner of Gié Gié Lingerie in Paoli Pennsylvania told me about the Woman’s Recovery event she sponsored early this year. Partnering with a radiation oncologist, two general surgeons, and LELO, purveyor of personal luxury objects, she set out to prove that female cancer victims, feeling stripped of their sensuality, could still experience pleasure, as an individual or with a partner. In a private upscale setting, after hours, clients had an opportunity to interface with experts, bond with each other and discover beautiful products designed to re-ignite their sexuality.
