Tail-Gate ~ Hanky Panky On Campus

I wasn’t much of a football enthusiast in college; I never really grasped the devotion of these obsessed fans. But then my son, in his sophomore year at Boston College managed to persuade us that tailgating was a rite of passage and we, as his parents, should take responsibility for abetting this tradition. So for several years, we motored to Boston to take part in the home game revelry nurtured on campus by a contingent of under and post graduates. Tripped out in all sorts of fan paraphernalia the entire collegiate landscape was a virtual sea of gold and maroon. T-shirts, hats, gloves scarves, blankets and jackets flooded the stands touting the school spirit. It was hard not to get caught up in it. What was truly amazing was the number of alumni hunkered down for the party. My guess is that tailgating is a bridge to a time when freedom and accountability were mutually exclusive.

If you want to support your school, maybe you need to be wearing school colors underneath as well as in full bloom. Just look at Louisiana State University’s current record! I have decided that Boston College’s poor performance this year is probably because they have not jumped on The Hanky Panky Collegiate Bandwagon, like LSU. A host of U.S.A. institutions have already seen the light, declaring their school allegiance with their Hanky Panky Undie Spirit.
