Intimate Insider News

By Moira Nelson

I found myself wandering around the West Village on Sunday afternoon, popping in and out of specialty boutiques.  I have always appreciated small, independently owned businesses.  I admire their entrepreneurial spirit and their passion for taking risks on lesser known designers and brands.  One of my stops was the lingerie boutique Marc and Max on Bleecker Street.  I was thrilled to see that they are now carrying my favorite lingerie brand, Ann Vogue, as well as other emerging brands such as Claudette, Brulee, CLO Intimo, Tatu Couture, Addiction Nouvelle Lingerie and the exquisite Lou Paris.  Next time you’re in the neighborhood, take a few minutes to admire their carefully curated selection of fine lingerie.

Last week I introduced you to the very talented Angela Friedman and her debut intimate apparel collection, the Versailles Collection.  To get a look at her impeccable designs, stop into La Petite Coquette on University Place, NYC.  Selected pieces from her collection are displayed in the front window.  And more pieces from her range will be in store in August.

The Underfashion Club held a members-only networking event on Tuesday, June 12th.  The exclusive Intimate Affair was a wine and cheese tasting event at Murray’s Cheese on Bleecker Street in the Village.  Murray’s Cheese has been a neighborhood landmark in Greenwich Village since 1940.  I have purchased some of the finest cheeses from Murray’s over the years and have attended some of their other tasting events and classes.  Can you tell that cheese ranks as one of my “favorite things” right behind lingerie?

In the market for some new lingerie or sleepwear at fabulous prices?  KOMAR and Carole Hochman Design Group (a KOMAR company) are having their annual Sleepwear and Lingerie Sample Sale on Wednesday June 20th & Thursday June 21st.  The sale is being held at 135 Madison Avenue, 4th Floor, NYC (between 31st & 32nd Streets) and will feature lingerie and sleepwear from brands including Betsey Johnson, Anne Klein, Donna Karan Collection, Company by Ellen Tracy, Nicole Miller and more.

Mode City PARIS is only a few weeks away.  Be sure to register online for your badge at www.mode-city.com.  The famous Salon International du Swimwear and de la Lingerie and Interfiliere are being held from July 7th through July 9th at the Paris Expo, Porte de Versailles, Pavilion 1.

Attention Lingerie Designers!  The next edition of the Lingerie Journal Designer Showcase is opening its doors this summer.  They had an incredibly successful show this past February with 10 independent designers showing their lines and a sold out Brand Affair Seminar and Lingerie Exhibition that drew in close to 200 guests including buyers, lingerie retail store owners, independent lingerie designers, wholesale manufacturers, influential lingerie bloggers, and other intimate apparel professionals.  Designers interested in exhibiting at this summer’s show should contact info@lingeriedesignershowcase.com to request an application. Space is very limited, so be sure to register quickly.

SAVE THE DATE!  Luis Paredes, publisher of The Lingerie Journal, and I have partnered together to create something truly unique….  We will be officially announcing our latest endeavor on Monday July 9th and will be celebrating our partnership with a Launch Party and Lingerie Fashion Exhibition on Saturday, August 4th.  Space will be limited.  But we will do our best to accommodate everyone that wants to be a part of this special Intimate Affair.  If you would like to be added to our Invite List, please email me at BraLaMode@gmail.com and put “AUG 4th” in the subject line.  I’m really excited about this project and can’t wait to share it with the entire lingerie community. It will align all facets of our industry in very unique ways.  Stay tuned for the official announcement!
