For Auld Lang Syne ~ Lingerie That Lingers

1920 knickers

Today is New Year’s Eve and that time each year when we reminisce.  I was thinking about how I became so enamored with Intimate Apparel. I was never a girly girl.  It was never about the concept of sex appeal.  When I was a young woman, I shopped in vintage and recycled clothing stores because I had a proclivity for old things.  Somehow they made me feel unique, independent and not a fashion clone.  When I  scavenged these shops there were always beautiful pieces of old lingerie, often hand sewn with exquisite laces and delicate embroideries that in today’s world are the privilege of the very rich.   Of all the antique items I collected as a lover of old things, nothing spoke to the feminine spirit quite like these underpinnings.  Worn everyday in the days of yore, they are now relics; but their history survives as the inspiration for many of our contemporary designers.  They are works of fashion art that teach us that the past always affects the future.
