It’s All About the Kids! Femmy Awards 2016
Tuesday evening I had the honor of attending the 2016 Femmy Awards at Cipriani 42 in NYC. Hosted by the Underfashion Club, over 675 market executives, media and celebrities gathered to honor Intimate icons for their contributions to the Lingerie industry. Hosted by the incomparable Dita Von Teese, awards were served up and speeches were made. You can google for more details. For my part, I prefer to focus on the six design finalist whose creative efforts are really what this event is all about. Competing for scholarship money to further their fashion education, these FIT design students are given a concept with a small budget to inspire their work. This year the theme was “Artist as Muse” motivated by either Frieda Kahlo of Georgia O’Keefe. Kimberly Paley came in first place, but in my opinion, all of them deserve accolades. The mission of the Underfashion Club is to support education, influence and attract new talent, raising money to serve this effort. Clearly, the outstanding work generated by these six young ladies and the scholarship money received ,prove how this excellent non-profit organization is serving our industry in the best way possible.
