A/W 2017 Trend Alert @ Curve New York

unnamedI just returned from my semi-annual 3 day immersion into Curve New York.  I will be covering the Fall 2016 show in the next few days. Today, however, I thought I might catapult you into the lingerie fashion future with a brief exposé from Concepts Paris on the autumn/winter 2017 trends. During the show, Jos Berry, our intimate industry soothsayer, gave us an overview of the emerging color, fabric and story message. She will be present, along with show partners Invista™, to take a deeper dive into this direction during the Interfiliѐre show in NYC on Sept 22.

The color palette is gorgeous: Half-lit darks: red cabbage and purple, Powdery shades: almost nude pastels, soft ceramic blues:baby blue with hints of purple and mint, Earth tones mixed with textures:coppery reds; Green: bright to khaki, Unexpected accents: Fluorescent tones creating an edge of eccentricity including laces as contrast

Four major themes dominate

Enrich: The comeback of the extraordinary. The power of older women & their foray into self-care, confidence, expression, pampering the senses.  Here we see luscious prints, rich embroidery, guipures and guipure motifs.

Discover: The world is flat. A new taste level for crafts & culture; handmade, prints derived from other cultures. Surface effects: re-embroidery, pile, fluffiness, quitlting, topstitching, decorated. Volume. Spacers.

Indulge: The feeling a woman gets when she opens a drawer too iconic lingerie fabrics, colors & lace. Vintage for a generation that  has never seen it. Modern functionality in design with timeless femininity. Cut & Sew is back. Importance of non-wires

Express: “The strap bonanza”. The influence of Marlies Dekkers, S& M, seductive drama in every classification. Skin decoration. Lots of transparency. Skin is the canvas with printing and flocking creating design on a transparent surface

There is much more to hear. Jos will be back September 22, 2016 for a complete immersion at The Tunnel in New York.
