Change is the only constant. I learned this lesson a long time ago, but this statement has taken on a richer, more urgent meaning in the past 6 months. Everyone, everywhere is scrambling to regroup, reassert, reassess priorities and expectations. The lingerie industry was already in flux prior to Covid. New initiatives were already impacting design and development: inclusivity, sustainability, comfort, and health. These themes have redefined the concept of value in fashion, particularly sustainability. For lingerie the challenges are even more overwhelming, from multiple sizing to multiple componentry, it’s not an easy process.

One result of the Covid lockdown for me has been the opportunity to engage on a much more intimate level with stores and brands. There is a shift in focus to quality over quantity. We are reducing the amount of “stuff” we stock in our inventory: warehouses, stores and closets.

That is why Samantha Chang’s Fall 2020 creation of the ‘My Daily Upcycle’ pieces caught my attention. In her quest to turn waste into want, Samantha took left over lace from one of a previous season’s higher priced collections and re-worked it into her opening price point built up soft bra and boyshort, known by her customers as ‘My Daily’.  Maintaining the My Daily prices while utilizing the excess of more expensive materials is a win win for the consumer, who gets incredible value for her dollar and,for Samantha, who eliminates once stagnant fabric from her inventory.
