For The Love Of Watercolor

By Lindsey Borchard

I have always had a love for art, especially watercolor. I took up watercolor in high school and it stuck with me. I love the way the colors melt into one another, the way they flow on the paper without a care in the world. My connection with watercolor paintings has always felt very personal. The paintings are always beautiful, but are far from having perfect lines and form. It’s the right amount of beauty with a little imperfection. Just like me.

When I was painting I would allow myself to get lost in the moment, feel the life the painting was starting to take on. It was an amazing feeling and it taught me so much about myself. Like how to express my emotions, my creativity, and my thoughts. My paintings never judged me. They never said I wasn’t good enough. Painting allowed me to be angry, sad, happy, or anything I was feeling at that particular moment. It was that creativity that led me to fashion in the first place and has carried through my career today.

I love transforming art into fashion. Taking a part of something you love and wearing some sort of inspiration from it. It’s like letting somebody in on your story without having to say anything. Don’t be afraid to show people who you are by the fashion you wear. It’s the most intimate thing you can reveal about yourself without having to undress.
