Lingerie As Art ~ Art Basel & Lingerie Français

Over the last 48 hours I’ve been searching for some sort of escape to a place of intelligent design. So I have decided to move up my editorial plans for this month. Burrowing into the archives of 120 years of French lingerie coupled with contemporary artwork exploring “seduction, eroticism, glamour and fashion” seemed like an intriguing way to channel my need for creative relief.

This post highlights the upcoming Art Basel Miami collaboration with Lingerie Français , a unique exhibition curated by historian Catherine Orman.  100 pieces of French Lingerie “illustrating significant developments in fashion, technological innovation, legendary craftsmanship, the morphing silhouette and the ever-evolving ideals of feminine propriety” will be shown in tandem with several internationally respected artists, such as M.J. Van Huijkelom, whose use of the female self informs their work. The photography by Gilles Berquet elegantly combines with the extraordinary undergarments on exhibit shortly at the Sagamore Hotel in Miami Beach from 11/29 to 12/6

This show is a major effort to elevate intimates to the art status they command. The social mores that have governed society since 1880 and dictated women’s fashion are revealed through collections from major innovators in our industry including AUBADE, BARBARA, CHANTELLE, EMPREINTE, IMPLICITE, LISE CHARMEL, LOU, LOUISA BRACQ, MAISON LEJABY, PASSIONATA, and SIMONE PÉRÈLE.
