Love The Body You’re In ~ Cake Lingerie

By Lindsey Borchard

In my last post about nursing bras I talked about some brands I wanted to try and last week I got the opportunity to personally try on Cake Lingerie. Other then Target nursing bras (which by the way DON’T work for larger breasted gals like myself) Cake Lingerie have been the first nursing bra’s I have tried.

I met Co-owner Keith for the first time at Curve New York (the other half to the fabulous woman who created Cake Lingerie, Tracey.) There I had my first real lesson on nursing bras and how they should fit. I was excited to run my fingers through the rack of Fall 2013 merchandise and see bras that didn’t even look like nursing bras. Everything about them made me jump for joy for what was in store for me. The colors, textures, and fabrics were all unique and beautiful. And with names like Cotton Candy, Toffee, Vanilla Cream and Sorbet to name a few who wouldn’t want them all! It’s like walking into a candy store, or should I say ‘Cake’ store.

Keith was so kind to send me two different styles for me to try and give my feedback. So let’s get started!

The first one I tried is the Apricot Sorbet Plus size Maternity Bra. The name in itself is good enough to eat and so is this bra. I tried this on in a 38F. Although the cup was a tad big (I’m sure I will have no problem filling this in once the baby comes), the band fit great. I am normally a 36 but with my expanding ribcage the 38 fit like a glove on the loosest hook giving me plenty of room and another 5 hooks to use as my waist shrinks back to normal after child birth. The straps were wide and comfortable and are fully adjustable. Something I LOVE from a bra. The lace details on the sides make this bra feel special and the three buttons on the center front add a bit of cheekiness, making me feel like I have a little slice of heaven under my shirt. The greatest thing about this bra though is that it is wire-free with great support! Which is key to have in the first few weeks of breast-feeding and also in the last few months of pregnancy (more on this topic in my next blog post about, “How to Prepare Yourself for Breast-feeding”) so stay tuned. This bra is definitely one that I will be wearing most during the first few weeks of breast-feeding/post baby. I suggest anyone over a D cup to pick this one up.

The other bra I tried is called Licorice Twist Flexible Wire Maternity Bra in Black. This one again was a 38F and fit perfectly in the band and cup. I probably won’t be wearing this right after the baby, (Cake actually recommends wearing this about a month after baby when your breasts have settled) but this bra will be in my rotation of current bras now and post baby. It has an extra row of hook and eyes, which makes the fit a bit more snug then the Sorbet Plus size Maternity Bra but nonetheless the fit is superb. The flexible-wire bras are purposely shaped to sit under and around the breast tissue to avoid harshness to the skin or breast tissue. I love the soft lace and mesh fabric and it’s just enough sexy to forget it’s a nursing bra.

Rocky-Road-Short- Maternity Chemise by Cake on Lingerie Briefs

Cake Lingerie has made a great first impression on me and to me they are the real deal when it comes to knowing how to fit to a pregnant and post baby body. These bras are beautiful with a great amount of thought into details and fit. I am excited to try to more styles and get their sports bra that is out later this year. They also make beautiful sleepwear (I will be purchasing the Rocky Road Maternity Short Chemise later on), underwear, and have several other styles including a molded tee-shirt bra, convertible strapless, and a seamless collection. The only downfall to Cake Lingerie is they make it hard to choose just one bra.

So for all of you pregnant and nursing women out there, as your body continues to change, and insecure feelings take over remember there is a company out there that is on your side to help make you feel like the beautiful and confident mom and woman you are. Cake Lingerie says it best “Love the Body you’re in”.

*Please Note: Cake Lingerie did NOT sponsor this post. I am giving my recommendations/opinions based on the product I personally try and know.
