Creative Seedlings at The Lingerie Selection
By ELLEN LEWIS
Bartenders, waitresses, administrative assistants; these jobs are what many young designers do to fund their real passion, Lingerie Design. Unwilling to compromise their creativity, they have developed new sales channels; pop ups and Instagram for example. As young Indie designers resist mainstream career routes, they plant seedlings nurturing the market with new ideas.
The Lingerie Selection is a small boutique show that enables emerging talent, whose coffers do not contain the financial substance that a large trade show requires. The show, now 4 years old, is a small conclave of brands. This year a total of 12 participated. The highlights presented here are right on target and represent several key trends, some of which percolated from the sewing machines that these women command. Here are just a few: Harnesses are happening. And like every other sector of the industry, they are clearly moving outside of the bedroom.
