Sequined Robes and Capelets ~ Holidays at The Nylon Swish
By HOLLY JACKSON
I started putting up my holiday decorations this week, mostly as a rewarding for finishing up about 50% of the family gifts I committed to crafting by Christmas. I started with what I think of as the family tree corner. It’s filled with beautiful wooden dowel trees made by my father-in-law that are decorated with my grandparent’s leftover tiny Shiny Brite ornaments from the 1940’s (the whopping price of 39 cents for a box of ornaments are marked on them). They’re all classic retro mint and rose pink colors, and they always remind me of how much I love vintage things.
Elinor, the owner and designer behind The Nylon Swish, also loves shiny vintage things. The colors in her latest line of offerings reminds me so much of those vintage ornaments, which makes them perfectly appropriate for the upcoming holiday season. We’ve covered her Reyna Gowns here before, but for the holidays Elinor decided to take the glamour up a notch and release two amazing sequined versions that can be worn as a robe or as a gown for holiday events. These are available in a perfectly retro pink and a classic gold version.
The Jasmine Robe has a lot more going for it than just glitter! The design is still curve-friendly and comes in a really robust size range from size small to 3X. These gowns are designed to accommodate curves without any gapping and are fully lined so they can be worn as outerwear. Elinor has kept the same dramatic bishop sleeves and glass button details that made the first Reyna Gown so stunning as well.
If you want to dress up your holiday little black dress or your favorite holiday lingerie set, The Nylon Swish has also released the Bethan Capelet! This piece features intricate beading on black tulle and is the perfect vintage outfit accessory for the holiday season. It’s full of thoughtful little details and looks truly vintage rather than like a cheesy reproduction.
I have adored everything The Nylon Swish has released so far and I am so happy to see them continue to come out with new pieces that encourage curvy women to let their inner movie star out. I suspect all fans of vintage fashion, glitter, and dramatic sleeves out there will agree with me.
