If there is one thing that I think many curvy women have in common, it’s a fear of actually getting their swimwear wet. Unlike bras, ill-fitting swimwear can go bad in so many ways once it actually hits the water. For many years, buying swimwear that was too big in the band to accommodate your cup size was the norm, which made actually swimming in it fairly impractical. Ever had your top slip back off over your head when you dive under a wave in the ocean? What about fabrics that go totally limp when wet (which is usually when your breasts fall out the top due to lack of support)?
Curvy Kate was at the forefront of fashionable full-bust and plus-size bras, so it’s no surprise that their swimwear is ahead of the pack as well. Their youthful take on prints and patterns have transferred over … ...Read more

Just last week we had Tina’s blog post make mention of the Almodóvar film “Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!” and then there was Holly’s guest post featuring strappy bondage-inspired bras, and here we are with this week’s post that borrows references from both. The Brazilian swimwear brand, Lenny Niemeyer, is a luxury swimwear label that specializes in glamorous looks with distinctive style elements. This eponymous label creatively applies linear and geometric motifs to many of its styles; resulting in strappy swimsuit designs unlike anything we’ve ever seen. Additionally, many of the designs are architecturally inspired, as evidenced by the clean lines on its swimwear that are created with a clever usage of straps, ropes and knots. There are even a few styles that are distinctly Shibari-inspired, making those particular items provocative and bold. Whether bondage-inspired or not, the common thread between each collection is sophistication. … ...Read more

It’s not spring yet and par for the course this winter the weather is awful: it’s pouring rain in New York today. I, however, can endure. In three weeks I will return to my home in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, from where my friends have been posting beach pictures:casual whales breaching, boating excursions and seaside dinner dates. In most of these images, bathing suits are the clothing du jour. Cabo is a huge resort destination for the California celebrity set. We hear about it all the time, but our lives rarely cross their secluded villa hideaways. Those scenes remain in the movies. For the rest of us, the lifestyle is just fine. But bathing suits are required. Why not experience a bit of cinematic transference? Marie Jo’s new swimwear collection manages to do just that. Created with iconic film Divas in mind, the brand just launched their … ...Read more

I am not in Mexico at the moment; I came north for the holidays and to prepare for the fall 2018 market. It’s a bit counter intuitive, braving the northeastern weather patterns while most people are escaping south for a sun soaked reprieve. It is, in fact, the beginning of the Swimwear season. And even though I write this wrapped in fleece, there is no doubt that my interest in this enormous industry has been peaked by the fact that I reside seaside for a big part of the year. Beachwear is as prevalent on the Mexican beaches as black everything controls New York fashion. Living in Cabo San Lucas, one might catch sight of the romper pictured above while cruising through the local flea markets, sipping margaritas on the marina or even dining on some tacos at one of the many resort lounges frequented by expats … ...Read more

The Little Black Dress, made famous by Coco Chanel when she introduced it in Vogue in 1926, has endured because it is an icon of good taste. This ubiquitous style has served for almost a century as a wardrobe staple that a woman can dress up or dress down. A symbol of understated elegance accessible at many income levels has positioned it as a classic fashion necessity. Personally, I have owned some version of the “LBD” for as long as I can remember, wearing it to work, to dinner, to casual parties and even to weddings. Capturing the mood with accessories is the secret and let’s face it, black is both chic and seductive. In fact, I even have one here in Mexico which, in the 5 years I have lived here, I have worn exactly once.
Instead, the little black dress in Cabo San Lucas is … ...Read more
