Natural Robe and PJ collection from Ellipse Lingerie as featured on Lingerie Briefs

For me, though my mom has been gone for over 30 years, Mother’s Day remains a floral reminiscence. For as long as I can remember, on this holiday, I gave her a single yellow rose, her favorite. My mother loved gardens. After my parents sold our family home, she was always pilfering from mine: bouquets of tulips, daffodils, forsythia, peonies and of course my roses. After she died, I planted two flowering pear trees in my yard: one in her honor, the other for my newborn son with whom I was pregnant when she passed on. She was fierce about keeping floral arrangements fresh. Even when she was fading she would demand that I purge limp blooms from vases in her hospital room.  Perhaps this influence is why I am sitting here at my computer in my Mexican home while the gardeners strip my yard of vegetation for the 3rd time since I moved here 6 years ago. I have learned the hard way that the greenery of desire doesn’t always thrive in the reality of place. This is a tropical desert environment and this time, I intend to get it right. We’re adding stones, collected coral, and beach blooms anchored by palms. The ocean is prevalent here. I am creating my own version of earthly delights.

The Explorer Robe collection from Ellipse Lingerie on Lingerie Briefs

This brings me to Ellipse Lingerie and their stunning spring presentation of robes and pajamas, perfect gifts for the garden loving mother. The Explorer (blue) and Natural (white) collections captured my imagination for their beautifully wrought print designs. Fitting S-XL and constructed in a silky knit microfiber these robes are soft, comfortable and nurturing. Designed, developed and produced in Columbia, they are typical offerings of this 35 year old female run company. Ellipse, steered by its 83 year old matriarch, is a garden of Intimates: gorgeous bridal, sleep and underwear worthy of any woman, mother or not.

In the interest of Nature, the quest for a more sustainable future and a nod to Mother Earth, lingerie holds a formidable position in the fashion world this year. Flowers are always relevant but it is how they are interpreted that empowers the story. The 30+ year old Colombian based Ellipse Lingerie brand, which I have already recognized for their beautiful bridal lingerie, peaks my interest each season with their unique design aesthetic: a tongue and cheek combination of sass and seduction. This time it’s the Botanical collection, a range of intimates utilizing a velvet touch of flowery prints and embroideries to define the bras and panties. Framed by a floral printed kimono that is the centerpiece of this garden of lingerie delights, the entire group is a gift bonanza for a December bride as well as a contemporary young woman. What entices me about Ellipse is their fortitude in the Latin American Market whose growing influence in North America cannot be denied.

Ellipse Bridal Lingerie on Lingerie Briefs

We flew to Southern California this past weekend to attend the wedding party of my son’s sister-in-law, Megan Best. In true Megan style, it was just a whole lot of fun; a block party held outside her family’s home with 200 people eating, drinking and dancing in the street. Casual as it was; a buffet style barbecue, wine and beer stations, a candy bar, ice cream carts and even a bouncy house for the kids, there was also a chorus of groomsmen, bridesmaids and a vintage style wedding dress. Since they were married several months earlier in Boston from whence they recently moved, the ceremony was an exchange of vows officiated by none other than my daughter in law who delivered a clever speech to anoint their union. They danced down the aisle to the theme of Jurassic Park, the bride in her high top gold glitter Vans. In fact, the entire wedding party wore sneakers!

At first pass, one might think that this down home wedding celebration had little correlation to Ellipse luxury bridal lingerie. But perusing this 60 year old Colombian brand I could relate its festive attitude to Megan’s infectious personality and her effusive, independent approach to life.  For sure, this is the strongest expression of feminine beauty. Ellipse Lingerie produces multiple collections answering to many different stages of a woman’s journey, but it is the delightful details of the bridal assortment that makes them unique. Gorgeous European laces and fabrics are expertly crafted into romantic and flirtatious intimates worthy of bridal undergarments and honeymoon nights. The cheeky design aesthetic add to the charm. Entering the American market is not always easy, but who could deny the fun loving allure of this wedding statement by Ellipse Lingerie. And after all, in the end, “girls just want to have fun”.

[lightbox color=”#000000″ type=”image” title=”” link=”https://lingeriebriefs.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/Untitled-6.jpg”][/lightbox]Several week’s ago I was in The Pink Slip in [lightbox color=”#000000″ type=”image” title=”” link=”https://lingeriebriefs.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/nuit.jpg”][/lightbox]NYC when owner Margo Andros introduced me to a hot new  lingerie brand, Ellipse, which she had recently tested with excellent results.  Doing diligence, I discovered that this 25 year old Colombian  company produces intimates, lounge and sleepwear as well as  swimwear  and is distributed throughout South and Central America.    Beautifully executed with European raw materials, Ellipse offers a haute couture sensibility at great value.  Focused on the  lingerie lover’s  taste for glamor, youth, beauty and basics, every need is addressed.   There are wonderful pieces in the four major collections: sultry Nuit, beautiful Flowers and Lovers, playful Girly and practical Essentials.  Coming to North America, Ellipse brings some well established southern heat north of the border.

[lightbox color=”#000000″ type=”image” title=”” link=”https://lingeriebriefs.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/railroad-shoes-shirley.jpg”][/lightbox]I have a personal rapport with the color red.  My first car was a Red Toyota Corolla; $3000 new including air conditioning and snow tires.  I was 21 and I wanted to make a statement.  I polished my nails in “Revlon Red” lacquer, painted my lips in “Dior Red” lipstick, owned a red Bill Blass coat and donned a pair of red suede Charles Jourdan stilettos , which I wore to work in a retail job where I had to be on my feet constantly.  I did not care.  Red said, “yes I can and I will”.  Red defined who I thought I was (or wanted to be):  vivacious, creative, confident and worthy of attention.  Red is the quintessential metaphor for passion.  It is sexy, emotional, and hot; a seductive collage of blood, roses and wine mingling with an erotic tango, and lush fruit on a sultry summer night.    Red worn wisely is a fiery splash of encouragement in a classy wardrobe.

What I could not find in those youthful days was a beautiful bra in any vibrant color, let alone red, that was designed for my curvier torso.  Foundations developed with fashion flair for a fuller bustline did not exist.  It was not until I was introduced years later to the award winning British brand, Panache Lingerie that I was properly hooked.  I have been wearing Tango (#3251) for several years now having been fitted in this pretty balconnet style by my friend Kay-Lin who insisted I deserved and could actually own a bra that was mutually supportive as well as charismatic.  So you can imagine how nostalgic it was for me when I learned that the Tango collection, now celebrating its 10th year of successful global sales, was being launched this month in Cherry Red.  Available in sizes D – K cups, nothing embraces a full breasted woman with attitude quite like the dynamic Tango in sultry red.
