The weather here on the Eastern Shore has been gorgeous, my puppy is turning one year old this month, and my first real autumn in nearly a decade has felt really celebratory. I love the ability to take long walks in the country with my dog, do my work out on my porch with a cup of coffee in the sunlight and actually wear flannel shirts un-ironically. Thanks to my Evelyn & Bobbie discovery, I’ve been doing all of this in one bra.… Read More
We first introduced KILO BRAVA Lingerie last July, mid pandemic, when they were (and still are) defying the odds with a burgeoning business. This season, the brand continues its ascent with a new series of intimate stories targeted at women from S-XXXL (4-24). The KILO BRAVA retro-design aesthetic is crafted expertly in throwback shapes with body friendly fabrics; bamboo knits and stretch satin and laces. Fun digital prints and easy yet not so basic essentials pepper the assortment. The Spring/ Summer 2021 campaign pays homage to an emerging world utilizing a butterfly metaphor exquisitely executed in both print and embroidery. … Read More
The Evelyn & Bobbie Defy Bra has changed my life. No exaggeration from a woman who has spent her entire adulthood waiting to get home in order to remove my bra. I am a 36G and the bralette revolution has basically passed me by…until now.
When brand founder Bree McKeen sent me a sample last spring, I told her she was wasting her time. But of course, I tried it. And then I wrote about it because, I literally wore it every day afterwards working from home, going on errands, babysitting, even to dinner at my daughters on Christmas Eve.… Read More
I went whale watching this past weekend determined to see one in the wild, since I have not had the pleasure since I began living here in 2011. That’s because the season peaks in early winter, good for tourism, bad for me. I am always away, in Paris, NY and the rest of the lingerie market, hunting and gathering product information while the rest of my friends take countless sojourns into the ocean to site these magnificent beasts. The water’s around Cabo San Lucas are a migratory destination and breeding ground for many species.… Read More
Everyone knows that exercise is critical to longevity. But no one told me that my sport of choice in my 60’s would be shadowing a 15 month old human powerhouse. Spending the past month caring for my grandson has proven that one is never too old to hang from the rafters, defy gravity, run sprints or jump hurdles. Never mind yoga, horseback riding or the gym. If I am not in shape after this marathon, I give up. The uniform of choice for these activities is very important: able to absorb spillage, dirty hands, and baby slime without a sweat. … Read More
Every once and awhile I like to focus on an artist whose dedication to her vision raises the bar for women. Defying the status quo is difficult in a commercially charged world, but Marlies Dekkers has proven her metal by standing firm in her desire to express her own personal perception of Intimates.
Doing so, she has pushed the envelope of bra design, introducing the concept of brave exposure to the Lingerie collective. Pioneering the innerwear/ outerwear approach in fashion when she began her company 20 years ago, her influence has now reached international renown. … Read More
As a fitness instructior, I do a lot of jumping. Is it possible that not wearing the right sports bra can make your boobs sag? Jolene Mathews
Ah, the sagging debate. Great question, Jolene. Everyone always wants to know what really causes sagging. In short, one word: Gravity! This entire issue is covered in depth in The Bra Book and I interviewed several doctors to get their professional opinions, and pulled together all the research that’s out there. Believe it or not, this subject has been researched!… Read More
